Nothing screams summer like kids, dogs, and ice cream! You’re guaranteed to get all three at Tabitha’s Ice Cream. Their newest Fairfield location is open year-round serving up delicious ice cream with a smile. We checked in with owner, Susan Hickey, for the proverbial scoop…

How did the shop get its name?

We met Tabitha on the boardwalk ten years ago. When we took over the boardwalk’s ice cream shop in 2019, it seemed obvious that we should name our shop after our best buddy. Tabitha joined our family in 2020 after the passing of her owner, Bill.

Is Tabitha’s a family business?

Tabitha’s is owned by me, my two daughters, Charlotte and Hilary, and my business partner Jack Van Sant.

How do you keep things local?

We source our ice cream mainly from Praline’s Own Made Ice Cream, a family-owned business based in Wallingford, Connecticut. We also offer multiple flavors of Miccalizzi’s Italian Ice as well as custom-made flavors, such as our exclusive Shirley Temple and Argh Pirate Mint Chip, as well as Jay’s famous Cannoli ice cream! Some of our vegan flavors are from Nutty Bunny in Norwalk.

Most popular ice cream flavor?

Mint Chip and Toasted Almond

Most popular specialty Sundae?

By far the Brown-Eyed Girl! It has brownie-chip ice cream, a warm brownie, covered in hot fudge, whipped cream, and chocolate sprinkles, accompanied by a “specialty sound-byte” that comes with most of our specialties!

Your favorite ice cream flavor?

Vanilla!

Fun Fact?

Our specialty menu is what dictated the decor, with designated selfie spots for some of our sundaes. Enjoy a Jimmy Buffett key lime milkshake beside tropical scenery, or a New Yorker cheesecake sundae near a cityscape and real walk sign!
