Gather all day long at Solstice Coffee & Cocktails, founded by hospitality veteran Matthew Wenger

In March, a new kind of gathering made its debut just off Lake Travis. Solstice blends indoor comfort with outdoor beauty, offering an open-air patio that looks out over the Texas Hill Country, set within an International Dark Sky Community.

For Founder Matthew Wenger, who also serves as longtime manager of Austin’s award-winning bar Whisler’s, Solstice is the culmination of years spent perfecting his cocktail craft. At the same time, he found inspiration in the family- and dog-friendly coffee shops of downtown. With Solstice, he’s brought those two worlds together under one roof.

“I was very excited to hire a staff and instill the tricks of the trade that I learned from my years of experience,” says Wenger. “You will never know everything, and I firmly believe that the tricks are not secrets. If I can help you grow on your path in life, why not?”

Looking ahead, the team is especially excited to host signature celebrations around the summer and winter solstices as a nod to the business’s name. Solstice is the balance of day and night, coffee and cocktails—two sides of the same coin.

When you visit, Wenger recommends trying his favorite: Just Another Coffee Drink, a cleverly named mezcal and espresso cocktail. Pair it with flavorful bites from local food trucks and settle in as acoustic music fills the evening air.

“There’s no feeling like the moment you remember to take a deep breath, look around, and see people from all walks of life enjoying something that you built,” says Wenger. “When a vision becomes a reality through hard work and the support of your team, it’s a surreal feeling of pride.”
