We've all heard the oft repeated statistic about supporting local businesses, When you shop local and use local services, most of the money you spend stays right in your lcommunity, so you're really helping yourself and your hometown. But now, as we slowly emerge from months of quarantine like a butterfly from its chrysalis, it's even more important than ever to support your local businesses. Many of them are small mom and pop shops that have struggled mightily in recent months. If you've driven around town lately, you probably have noticed that some of our local businesses didn't make it through the crisis. To help our community partners here at Glastonbury Lifestyle we wanted to give them a chance to reintroduce themselves to you with a brief reminder of who they are and what they provide. We hope you take the time to visit them in the coming days and weeks.

The Dreaming Tree | 39 New London Turnpike | 860-559-1729 | thedreamingtreeyoga.com
Being a mother and an elementary school teacher, I understand what it means to raise and serve children who struggle. My own challenges at home and in the classroom were the inspiration for creating The Dreaming Tree. The world is changing and I am excited to be on this journey to help our youth through yoga and mindfulness. What kids experience on the inside is what they tend to exhibit on the outside. The reflection of their inner world shows up in every part of their outer world- school, home, sleep habits, eating patterns, and peer relationships. I believe that the healing power of friendships and community have the ability to change the world, especially with children and teens. When we connect deeply with ourselves, we can begin to draw from the insight and wisdom within, and connect with others and the world around us. Mindfulness practices create a culture that is rooted in empathy, kindness, cooperation, and compassion so we raise the next generation of conscious communicators, empathetic leaders, and thoughtful, resilient, problem solvers. The yoga and mindfulness teaching that I provide gives us a path to achieving that.

Carrie Draghi
Carrie Draghi Photography LLC | 864 Main Street | Studio (landline) 860-633-4054 | Studio Mobile/Text 860-249-0757 | cdraghiphoto.com
After years of working as a freelance photographer, I decided to venture out to establish my own identity as an artist. In 2005, I opened a full-service photography studio on Main Street in the heart of South Glastonbury. The studio offers a broad range of professional photography services.
Though I've photographed commercial products for national and international brands, my true passion as an artist is in photographing people. I enjoy the challenge of capturing the energy and emotions of real people in real (non-commercialized) moments of their lives Following that passion, I have won a number of awards and accolades in event photography and developed a specialization and reputation in Wedding, Bat & Bar Mitzvah, and Corporate Event photography. To that point, I have had the honor of being hired to photograph weddings from coast-to-coast in the United States as well as internationally. Additionally, I photograph Maternity & Newborns, Children & Families, High School Seniors, Corporate and Acting Headshots, as well as Boudoir.
The event industry has been hit very hard by the pandemic. At the time this was written, all of the events that I've booked to photograph through September were either canceled or rescheduled. I am hoping that the not-too-distant future holds the successful development and distribution of a vaccine which will allow for large celebrations and events to resume. Until that time, I'm focussing on portraiture work. In fact, many in the Glastonbury community have had the opportunity to interact with me during "The Front Steps Project," a charitable portrait project that I helped to launch at the beginning of the pandemic. And, of course, I will continue to photograph for Glastonbury Lifestyle.

Patterson Insurance Services | 860-428-7149 | pattersonmedicare.com
We are a family-owned business determined to make a difference. We help residents like you genuinely understand, choose, and enroll in the insurance plan that is the perfect fit for them.
We are Amy, Ed and Diane Patterson. Our story began in 2011 when Diane's mother needed help navigating Medicare. The experience was life changing. As a result, this mother-daughter team realized there was a deep need to help people with the overwhelm, anxiety, and complexity involving their health insurance options. In 2019, Amy's husband, Ed, joined the team. Our specialty is Medicare Insurance Plans, but we also offer total protection plans such as Critical Illness (Heart Attack/Stroke), Cancer, Final Expense, and Life. These plans are designed to fill in the gaps in your insurance portfolio.
Thousands of clients and hours of work have gone into creating proprietary methods that are specifically designed to simplify the insurance process. Our clients value the relationship of a trusted insurance advisor that works for them year-after-year, just as much as we value the friendships and relationships of all those we serve.

Mosquito Joe | ctshorelineeast.mosquitojoe.com | 203-909-6881
I’ve always loved being outdoors, connected with nature. As a mom of a French Bulldog and two young children, that passion for exploring outside continues to grow. After moving to Connecticut I wanted to protect my family from the harmful pathogens transmitted by ticks and mosquitoes, but I wanted to do it while protecting the ecosystem. After a thorough education process, my husband Patrick and I found the Mosquito Joe model and were part of the first cohort to bring it here. As a local, veteran, and woman owned business I’m proud to provide superior service to make outside fun again for all of our clients! Utilizing the latest and most effective eco-friendly suite of products, Mosquito Joe CT ShoreLine East breaks the breeding cycle for ticks, mosquitoes, and fleas-all in the same service. Each service is a custom blend for your yard, so get the greatest results - whatever the landscape includes. All of our team members are certified by CT DEEP and trained under the MoJo Model including important programs like their Pollinators Protection Program. Another point of pride for the Mosquito Joe CT ShoreLine East Team is their Hometown Hero Program, saving all active military, veterans, first responders, and any of those on the front lines an additional 5 percent on all services. Give us a call today to set up your program and enjoy your yard again!

Brian Lichtenstein
Lichtenstein Financial | 25 New London Turnpike | 860-633-1662 | lichtensteinfinancial.com
Lichtenstein Financial is a tax and wealth management practice headquartered locally out of Glastonbury (with offices in West Hartford and Middletown). Brian and company have been providing financial services for over 30 years, but this is not your traditional staid financial advisory firm. The Lichtenstein building is a combination of Swiss Chalet and Art Deco with an equally unique interior design. The office atmosphere is energetic and casual where neckties are rarely found on Brian or his staff of licensed tax and financial advisors. Heavily influenced by his martial arts background and his proclivity for writing poetry, Brian hails from the school of Behavioral Finance and has earned the distinction of being a Behavioral Financial Advisor. This is the practice of developing practical techniques to improve decision-making for clients. Brian’s role as his clients’ closest advisor (staff included) provides access to both personality and motivations and gives clarity regarding client challenges and specific ways to overcome them.
In the Age of Information, we are besieged with news, statistics and opinions at every turn and it’s difficult to detach and keep a proper perspective. Brian emphasizes that wealth is created over time and emotionally reacting to news streams or making financial moves based on charismatic opinion makers can be detrimental to your wealth creation. His suggestion is to avoid the pitfalls of buying the hot stock or trying to time the market and instead develop a financial plan with professional help and stick to it. It’s the old Tortoise and Hare story revisited, the tortoise makes it to the finish line by keeping a slow and steady course.

SK Lavery Appliances | 97 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury | 1003 Farmington Ave., West Hartford | 860-633-1065 | sklaveryappliance.com
In 1928 Samuel K. Lavery, a Scottish immigrant and an electrician by trade, started the S.K. Lavery Appliance Company in an effort to increase his electrical business. In those days, it was not a simple process for a homeowner to purchase a range. In many cases, Sam would be installing a range for the very first time and maybe even the first light bulb in a customer's home.
As more appliances were introduced, the business expanded. Now we sell not only ranges, but also refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, gas grills, washers and dryers, televisions, dishwashers, all major appliances and electronics. In 1961, his sons Samuel Jr. and Robert took over the day-to-day management of the business and continued the Lavery tradition of service and customer satisfaction. The business continued to grow through word of mouth and customer loyalty. Honesty and integrity has kept this family owned business strong over the decades.

Highland Park Market | 1320 Manchester Road | 860-646-4277 | highlandparkmarket.com
Started in 1886 when William White opened a small general store in the hope of providing his neighbors with a carefully selected stock of dry and fancy goods. In 1958, Jack Devanney purchased this small hometown market and embraced those same traditions. In 1985, Jack’s son Tim took over as president. Tim expanded to locations in Glastonbury, Farmington and Suffield. Today, five of Tim’s six children are in the business and have taken over the day to day operations of the stores. Molly, Christine, John, Tim Jr. and Cathleen have been carrying on the dedication to quality product, quality service, and community service.
From the beginning, Highland Park Markets has immersed ourselves into each community that we are located and have been blessed to be welcomed by a strong family base of customers in each area that we enter. Being a Connecticut business is something we are extremely proud of and we try to stock our shelves with items from the very place we call home from the freshest produce to a wide variety of gourmet grocery, bakery, deli and meat.

Meriden Makeovers LLC | 475-343-9835 | meridenmakeovers.com
Meriden Makeovers LLC was founded on a dream I've always had as a kid. As cliche as that sounds, we often forget about our dreams from the past. Attending a technical High School made me see that it was possible to start something that I was good at. I always wanted to have my own business, I've worked for companies before starting my own and I just did not like how the employees were treated. I think everyone deserves a chance at making it big, and if you're willing to put in the hard work you have an opportunity at creating the life you want.
We offer some of the best prices around because we love to help everyone who wants to upgrade their homes or commercial businesses and feel that deserve an affordable price. We strive for customer satisfaction and will make sure that our customers are extremely happy at the end of our service.
