A colorful candy sleigh that is perfect for selfies or a family holiday photo. A life-sized gummy bear that looks good enough to eat. A slide made of a giant Fruit Roll-Up.
These are just a few of the many delightful displays that are part of Sugarland, an interactive display of “sweet” life-sized holiday decorations.
The free event takes place daily through Sun., Jan. 2 at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park West, 3 S. Arizona Ave. in Downtown Chandler. People are welcome to attend during the day or at night.
“We’re thrilled to bring Sugarland back to Downtown Chandler for the second holiday season in a row,” says Mary Murphy-Bessler, executive director of the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership. “It is the perfect backdrop for family photos, corporate photos, and fun selfies with friends that are both magical and whimsical.”
Sugarland features some new displays this year, Murphy-Bessler says, including the life-sized gummy bear, a festive ice cream maker selfie station, and reindeer covered in sparkling lights that look like they are dancing through the palm trees on Commonwealth Avenue.
Popular displays that will make a return visit this year include the candy sleigh, which is next to the popular and unique Tumbleweed Tree, the Fruit Roll-Up slide—which people are welcome to slide down—a life-sized cup of hot chocolate topped with giant marshmallows that are spilling down the side, and plenty of candy canes.
At night the display showcases “Sugarland’s Canal of Lights.”
As Murphy-Bessler notes, this beautiful walkway extends over the Commonwealth Canal on Commonwealth Avenue and features over 500 colorful lights timed to dance holiday music from 5-10 p.m. daily.
“You don’t want to miss this memorable experience,” Murphy-Bessler says, adding that no matter what time of day people attend, Sugarland offers something for everyone to enjoy.
“They can snap their holiday photos while the sun is out, grab dinner and do a little shopping in Downtown, then enjoy the Canal of Lights.” DowntownChandler.org/Events/Sugarland
