What began as a family’s search for a neighborhood ice cream shop has grown into something the whole community looks forward to. And now, your sweet tooth’s favorite ice cream spot, Sweethaven, has expanded to Brentwood, marking its third location after its original Westhaven shop and second spot on Main Street in Franklin.
Katie and Eric Britt settled their family into Westhaven back in 2019, and it wasn’t long before they noticed something missing from their new neighborhood, a local sweet shop where the community could gather and celebrate life’s everyday moments. So, they decided to create one themselves. That idea transformed into the first Sweethaven location, and today, the family business serves up some of the highest quality ice cream in Middle Tennessee, along with farm-fresh frozen yogurt, freshly made waffle cones, and a themed sprinkle bar ready for holidays, milestones, and everything in between. Years later, Katie still finds herself grateful for what Sweethaven has become.
“I love that our children are getting to witness all that goes into running a small business,” Katie explained. “It’s so much more than the what meets the eye. My husband and I both care so much about the customer, and their experience matters to us.”
The Britts’ attention to detail and commitment to the best customer experience started before they even opened their doors, beginning with where they sourced their products. Their ice cream comes straight from Wisconsin, promising the same quality the dairy state is known for, while their frozen yogurt is sourced from a farm in Arkansas. The Britt family searched high and low to bring both locals and visitors to Middle Tennessee the highest-quality sweets around, and customers can taste the difference. What started as a lineup of eight original flavors - the ‘Original 8’ - has since grown into more than 70 signature flavors, 16 of which rotate daily as their ‘Sweet 16.’
However, their sweet services don’t stop at their three locations. They also offer The Sweet Cycle, a mobile ice cream cart, and The Sweet Shack, a food truck, both perfect for celebrations of any size. While Katie and Eric are hands-on owners, they consider every employee they work with as an extension of their family.
“Our staff members are so precious to our family,” Katie said. “I tell them all the time, go read the reviews and see what people are saying. [The reviews] always mention how friendly the service is, and the incredible staff that we have. They are such a blessing to us!
That same sense of family extends beyond Sweethaven’s walls and into the wider Williamson County community.
“One of the things I love most about Williamson County is the camaraderie with other small businesses,” Katie said. “Everybody is out to lift each other up and encourage one another, and that [is] such a blessing to our family. The small business community has been something that we cherish and are incredibly grateful for.”
