Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 4–5 tbsp ice water
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar (for filling)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp coarse sugar (optional)
Steps:
- Combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter. Add ice water until dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Mix strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla.
- Roll dough into a 12" circle, and then trim into a heart shape. Place the filling in the center, and fold edges.
- Brush with egg wash; sprinkle sugar. Bake at 375°F for 40–45 minutes.
