My passion began with earning my Girl Scout Cooking Badge for scalloped potatoes. After culinary school and decades in various culinary roles, starting Swirls of Flavor in 2013 was a way to organize my recipes, which unexpectedly grew into a business.

2. How do you develop new recipes to ensure they are easy and family-friendly?

I prioritize simplicity and accessibility, using fresh ingredients and clear instructions. My process involves researching food trends, balancing flavors, and perfecting the recipe. Engaging with readers on social media helps inspire new dishes.

3. What are some of your favorite ingredients for creating fresh and simple dishes?

I love working with fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and seafood. Using a variety of spices and seasonings adds depth and flavor to simple, wholesome ingredients.

4. How do you engage with your audience through your blog and social media?

I stay connected by sending email newsletters and meal plans, responding to comments, and interacting on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and X. This engagement provides inspiration and keeps me attuned to readers’ preferences.

5. Can you share a memorable experience from your time running Swirls of Flavor, especially involving family?

Making homemade pasta with my family is a treasured tradition. Starting with my grandma and cousins, I now make it with my sons and grandkids. The simple recipe and the joy of creating it together are priceless.

6. How do you balance blogging with other aspects of your life, and what challenges have you encountered?

Balancing full-time blogging with previous consulting work has been challenging, especially with SEO and adapting to algorithm changes. The flexibility of blogging helps manage this, but it requires constant learning and adjustment.

7. How do you believe food can bring people together, and how does this influence your recipes?

Food has the power to unite people. I design my recipes to be easy and family-friendly, encouraging shared meals and creating delicious memories with loved ones.
