Why is giving back to your city so important to you?
I like giving back to Kansas City because it has supported me through thick and thin. I keep running into people and hearing "Aren't You DJ Gar-V?" You want to talk about being humbled -- being called your stage name by people you don't even know. I clearly made a good and lasting impression on them to be remembered.
What opportunities have you had to be generous through your business?
The Autism Awareness Society of The Heartland, The Kelsey Smith Foundation, Second Chance Outdoors For Veterans, Street Style Dance Academy, Pet Resource Center of Kansas City, KC Pet Project, Operation Breakthrough and Kingdom Kids Can Create are organizations where I donate entertainment at their selected events.
Of all your accomplishments, what are you most proud of?
I am most proud, humbled and honored to be invited back each year to continue doing events for these organizations. It just says I am making a difference, well-liked and everyone had a good time!
Is there anything else you'd like to say about giving back?
Don't force something that you aren't able to show. Life is expensive and life is hard. Be generous to yourself, put in the hard work, get ahead of the curve and THEN if it is in the cards for you to give back, you will feel it when you see the opportunity.
It means everything to be looked at as an example of someone who has been blessed to make it where I am in my profession, yet show that I wear my heart on my sleeve.
