In 1998, Pat and Jerry Rebb set out on a mission to transform homes across the Indianapolis region, launching Abda Window Fashions. What began as a family venture has grown into a multigenerational business, with their sons, Timothy and Ben, joining it. Now, the Abda team indicates they all enjoy looking for the next wave of style and technology in window treatments.

Located at 2222 Cunningham Road in Speedway with a full-service showroom, the Abda staff is well trained and offers complimentary consultations on blinds, shades, shutters, drapery and more. In fact, the name of the business, Abda, means ‘servant,’ and the staff's dedication to approaching customers with a servant’s attitude has earned Abda a Better Business Bureau (BBB) A+ rating.

“We treat our clients as friends,” says Pat. “We never use hard sales tactics. When first meeting clients in their home or in our showroom, we ask about their preferences and lifestyle. Are there children in the home? Child safety could be a priority and so could durability. Are there pets? Are there any mobility problems? How would they like the window coverings to operate? These and many other conversations are important to understand which products would be best for them.”

The Abda team enters into clients’ homes with the utmost respect during the design process. The team greets clients with a smile, removes their shoes or places booties over them to protect a client’s flooring, and uses protective covers if extension ladders are needed to avoid marking up walls.

Clients come to Abda to create beautiful, inviting spaces inside and out using home window treatment solutions, including practical installations, stylish upgrades or the latest in home automation.

Homeowners can invite beautiful natural light into their homes while protecting privacy and interiors by lowering east-facing shades in the morning and west-facing shades in the afternoon, Jerry explains. “Blinds or shutters can be positioned to direct the light upward to save fading of hardwood floors, carpeting and other furniture. One product we carry is duo shades, which are two shades in one. A decorative light-filtering shade when lowered allows beautifully filtered light into the room, and a blackout shade that can be raised and lowered behind it for complete privacy, is a great option for any room.”

With clients being busier than ever, the Rebbs see a trend toward automation. “People want to be able to control the operations in their home remotely,” says Pat. “Things like locking and unlocking their doors, adjusting the heating, air conditioning and raising and lowering window treatments can all be done remotely.”

Another trend is exterior shades for outdoor spaces. “Customers are extending their living space to the outdoors,” explains Jerry. “Exterior solar screen shades with added protection and side channels and insect barriers are popular. With the added protection from mosquitoes and other insects, evenings spent outside can be more pleasant."

As the season centered around entertaining and gratitude approaches, changes to window treatments can make a home feel welcoming.

Pat explains, “There are both practical and design elements to consider. On the practical side, programming motorized shades to raise and lower can improve the efficiency of an HVAC system. Window shades and interior shutters provide additional insulation to windows. On the design side, interior shutters provide a classic look. The invisible tilt option offers better views and a more modern look. For a more urban industrial aesthetic, Hunter Douglas modern metal blinds or simple roller shades with an exposed roll or metal fascia may be a better choice. For a softer look that brings warmth into the room, add drapery or fabric shades such as Hunter Douglas, Vignette or Silhouette.”

Pat and Jerry say they're thankful for more than 28 years in business. And now there’s a new reason to be thankful. “Our sons, Ben and Tim, will be continuing the business once we decide to step away. Ben has already brought our business forward to this generation with his training and intuitive knowledge of home automation as he oversees installations and does some sales appointments when he has time in his schedule. Tim works in the office and keeps things running smoothly.”

"As we continue to evolve, our family’s commitment to service remains at the heart of everything we do, including a legacy built on trust, expertise and genuine care for our customers," confirms Pat.
