The Academy of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic, independent school that offers students the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and happy environment. The preschool through eighth grade program focuses on building strong academic skills while fostering independent learning and communication. Curriculum highlights include: three science labs, 1:1 computing, French and Spanish, daily physical education, and recognized art and music programs.
Founded in 1818 by St. Philippine Duchesne, the Academy was the first of many Sacred Heart schools established in the United States.
“Our mission is to educate and inspire the heart and mind of each child to become a courageous and confident leader who knows and loves God, and who reveals that love by serving others. Our graduates are young men and women well-prepared for the challenges of high school, college, and beyond,” says Head of School Susan Tyree Dempf, Ph.D.
If you’re interested in learning more about the 3-year-old, pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs, you can be an Academy student for the morning. You’ll sing songs with the music teacher, create an art project with the art teacher, enjoy story time with a librarian and join current students for a morning activity. RSVP is required.
You can also spend an hour with the school administration and parents to learn about the Academy’s curriculum and community at Informational Evenings throughout the year. This adult-only event was created for the busy parent/guardian who has little time to spare. RSVP is appreciated, but not required. Check the website for upcoming events.
Open houses are also held at various times throughout the year, where classrooms provide hands-on activities and fun demos for students of all ages. You have the opportunity to meet school faculty, current families and alumni at these very exciting open houses. Check the website for upcoming events.
