Eighteen years ago, Tiffany Terry and her sister, Amanda Hess, were asked to “temporarily” take over the Angel Tree program in their hometown of Anna. Little did they know that this short-term commitment would evolve into a lifelong passion. Now, as they embark on their 19th year, they remain dedicated to this heartwarming initiative that brings joy to families in need during the holiday season.
Starting in October, they collaborate with school counselors to distribute applications to parents. Parents can accept or decline the program, filling out their needs and wants before sending the forms back. Each year, they typically receive around 350 angel applications, and with the community's growth, they anticipate that the need will only increase.
What began as a simple act of service has blossomed into a beloved tradition. With the bank’s generous support in allowing them to set up the tree in the lobby of Texas Bank of Anna, countless miracles unfold each holiday season. Every year, they provide Christmas presents to families who need a little extra help, ensuring that the spirit of giving reaches those who might otherwise go without.
The Anna Police Department plays a crucial role in their efforts, assisting with deliveries, while various organizations within the school district adopt angels. Families often choose to sponsor entire families rather than buy gifts for each other, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. Local businesses and churches also join in, placing angels on their trees for customers to adopt, amplifying their reach.
The outpouring of support from the community is truly inspiring. It takes a village to make this program a success, and they are grateful to be part of such a loving and generous network. Their heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has contributed; the kindness shown ensures that the spirit of Christmas lives on for those in need. They feel truly blessed to continue this cherished tradition.
