Brentwood Lifestyle had the opportunity to sit down with stylist Lexie Skipper, who dives into Nashville’s fashion scene, where to shop, and her own journey as a stylist.

What made you want to get into fashion?

I’ve always believed that what you wear has the power to change how you feel. Fashion has always been so much more than clothing to me—it’s a form of self-expression, creativity, and confidence. Growing up, I was naturally drawn to bold colors, unique pieces, and outfits that made a statement. I loved experimenting with style and seeing how the right outfit could completely transform the way someone can feel and how it could make them carry themselves.

Over time, that passion grew into a career, and now I have the privilege of helping clients feel like the best version of themselves, whether they’re stepping onto a stage or simply getting dressed for everyday life. My goal is never to change who someone is, but to help them discover a style that feels authentic and gives them confidence. Whether someone lives in neutrals or loves bold color as much as I do, I want fashion to feel fun, approachable, and empowering—while maybe encouraging them to step just a little outside their comfort zone.

Tell me about your journey as a stylist.

My journey started with saying yes to every opportunity I could. I learned by being hands-on—assisting, organizing, pulling looks, and experiencing every part of the styling process. Working in Nashville has given me the opportunity to style artists, collaborate on photo shoots, and see firsthand how much preparation goes into creating a look that feels effortless. Those experiences taught me that styling isn’t just about fashion; it’s about understanding someone’s personality, lifestyle, and goals, then translating that into a wardrobe that feels authentic to them.

One of my favorite parts of styling is introducing clients to pieces they would have never picked for themselves. Seeing someone light up because they tried a color, silhouette, or trend they never thought they could wear is incredibly rewarding. Fashion should be exciting, not intimidating.

Nashville’s fashion scene has been evolving for years. What has this transformation looked like from where you are standing?

Nashville has become so much more fashion-forward while still staying true to its roots. There’s still a strong love for Western influence, but now it’s being mixed with luxury fashion, vintage pieces, bold colors, street style, and elevated tailoring.

What I love most is that people are embracing personal style over fitting into one specific aesthetic. You can walk down the street and see vintage, luxury, Western, and modern fashion all existing together. People aren’t afraid to experiment, and that creativity is what makes the city so inspiring. Nashville has found this incredible balance between classic Southern style and a more expressive, fashion-forward approach, making it such an exciting place for both creatives and everyday shoppers.

Tell me about your favorite local spots to shop at in Nashville! What makes them stand out to you?

Hero will always be one of my favorites because every visit feels inspiring. Their mix of emerging designers and unexpected pieces encourages people to have fun with fashion and step outside the ordinary.

Sézane is where I go for beautifully made wardrobe staples that never go out of style. Their pieces have that effortless quality that works season after season.

Ensemble Consignment Boutique is one of my favorite places to discover unique, elevated pieces with personality. I love that it feels like a treasure hunt, you never know what designer gem or statement piece you’ll find. It’s the perfect spot for clients who want to build a wardrobe that feels curated, personal, and anything but ordinary.

Star Struck Vintage is my go-to when I’m looking for a piece with personality. Their curated vintage collection is full of incredible denim, statement jackets, boots, and one-of-a-kind finds that instantly make an outfit feel special. It’s the perfect place to discover something no one else will be wearing.

What is one fashion rule everyone should follow?

Wear what makes you feel confident—not what you think you’re “supposed” to wear. My biggest fashion rule is to stop saying, “I’m just not someone who can wear that.” Most of the time, you absolutely can; you just haven’t found the right version of it yet.

The most stylish people aren’t the ones who follow every trend; they’re the ones who understand what makes them feel their best and wear it with confidence. Personal style should always come before trends. Fashion should evolve with you, and the best style happens when you’re willing to experiment, try something new, and step just a little outside your comfort zone while still feeling like yourself.

Have you noticed any exciting fall fashion trends?

I’m excited to see rich shades like chocolate brown, burgundy, olive, and deep navy continue into fall, but I’m especially loving how people are styling them. Color blocking is making a big comeback in a fresh, elevated way, and I love mixing unexpected color combinations that feel bold but still sophisticated. We’re also seeing more menswear-inspired tailoring paired with feminine pieces…think an oversized blazer with a silky slip skirt or a structured trouser styled with delicate lace or a romantic blouse.

Anything else you want to mention?

One thing I always hope people remember is that great style isn’t about having the biggest wardrobe or buying the most expensive clothes; it’s about understanding what makes you feel confident and creating a closet that reflects who you are.

I want people to know that style doesn’t have to fit into one box. I love color, bold pieces, and playful fashion, but my approach is always about the person in front of me. My job isn’t to dress everyone like me, it’s to help each client discover what makes them feel their best. Sometimes that’s a closet full of timeless neutrals, and sometimes it’s a bright pink fur jacket. Either way, I want getting dressed to feel exciting, personal, and empowering again.

Fashion should feel fun and approachable, and if I’ve helped someone feel more like themselves, then I’ve done my job. Your wardrobe should reflect your personality, not just the latest trend.
