The Best of the Outdoors

Joshua Creek Ranch and San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wildlife and Natural Resources Committee team up to support conservation and the youth of Texas

Get ready for an unparalleled celebration of the outdoor sporting lifestyle. For the first time, the Texas Hill Country Game Fair will bring a weekend filled with sporting brand exhibitions, engaging demonstrations, and opportunities to connect with outdoor experts and enthusiasts. Even better, these exciting experiences serve a purpose: to raise awareness and support for the conservation of our state’s natural resources and to educate the next generation of Texans. “We are excited to be partnering with Joshua Creek Ranch (JCR) to lead the way with this new event to provide additional funding and support for the benefit of the youth of Texas,” says Duane Westerman, the chair of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s Wildlife and Natural Resources Committee.

On June 20-21, the scenic landscape of JCR will transform into a haven for outdoor sporting. This inaugural event is poised to become a cornerstone of the Texas Hill Country outdoor calendar for years to come, offering a unique blend of outdoor sporting activities and family-friendly entertainment. “This will be one of the biggest events we have ever hosted at Joshua Creek Ranch,” says Kevin Welborn, JCR’s Managing Director. “The Texas Hill Country Game Fair will be similar to other game fairs around the country, but with a Texas flair and underlying purpose that only a partner like the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo can support.”

The two-day fair will host a “Game Changer” celebration on Friday evening, featuring live music, chef-prepared hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, and a live auction showcasing hunting adventures, firearms, and other premium sporting items. On Saturday, the main attraction will be a creekside exhibitor village where attendees can explore a vibrant marketplace highlighting the latest in outdoor gear, firearms, fishing and hunting equipment, outfitters, sporting apparel, recreational vehicles, artisan goods, and more.

In addition to the actual Fair, Saturday will also include a mixed-discipline team shooting competition, buffet-style lunch, music entertainment, silent auction, informative trials and sampling, and interactive demos including shooting, fly fishing, dog field training, ranch tours, whiskey tastings, and educational briefings. “There will literally be something for everyone with our incredible list of sponsors, exhibitors, and activities!” Welborn declares proudly. “We anticipate growing the game fair into a destination event that attracts outdoor sporting enthusiasts from all over the country each year.”

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has a long-standing tradition of supporting conservation and education through scholarships and grants, and this partnership with JCR extends that commitment to include a focus on outdoor sporting interests. JCR—renowned for its reputation as a world-class wingshooting lodge and sporting resort, and for its 35-year dedication to sporting traditions—provides the perfect setting for this impactful event.

“In 2025, we will continue to offer our year-round hunter education courses, angler education, landowner educational seminars, and we have already awarded the first-ever Junior Taxidermy Scholarship,” boasts Westerman. “Through the game fair, we plan to grow these programs and expand into new scholarship opportunities to help shape the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.”
