The Blue Skies Retro Resort just might be the most Insta-worthy getaway in Texas Hill Country.

Casey and Atticus Rowe have created a unique resort unlike anything this part of Texas has seen. With flawless attention to detail, and the dream of creating a Palm Springs vibe, their five Shasta trailers and Texas sago palm trees are creating social media posts and fun memories that will have guests wanting to return again and again.

The idea of creating a camping experience with touches of luxury came to Casey, she says, while she was setting up her own trailer campsite and she just wanted to be able to “get there and enjoy." She adds it was only a week or two later when she saw a property between Llano and Fredricksburg, one that had a large open field and sits adjacent to an old schoolhouse. That’s when Casey and Atticus knew this was the perfect place to “sprinkle trailers in a field and take off into the vision they both shared.”

It’s the openness of the resort that's pretty much a blank background for any event or occasion that guests want to host at Blue Skies. The resort can be completely rented out, and one of Casey’s favorite events was the first wedding ever held there. Prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, Blue Skies hosted a 150-person wedding party that was themed after a carnival. Casey and Atticus worked the wedding as parking attendants, and she says “they had the most fun” and it’s one of her favorite memories to date.

Blue Skies is purposely designed to lend itself to its’ guests creativity, exclaims Casey. “Anybody’s vision and vibe can come to life. Anything can happen out there.”

Among those visiting to take in the Hill Country atmosphere is the group of friends and family, who come to reconnect; that brings Casey joy. Other than weddings, there have been bachelorette parties, reunions and family getaways. Fredericksburg and the Texas Wine Trail are popular daytime activities, and in the heat of the Texas summer, there's a pool for casual relaxation.

For DFW residents, the Blue Skies Retro Resort is an easy weekend (or weekday) escape, and for those that need to stay plugged in – yes, there is WiFi. Each of the five pastel-hued trailers has an unexpected “companion bathroom” and this is where it gets fun – hotel amenities, robes and an outdoor shower.

It’s been about a year and a half since the official opening of the resort and this mini retro oasis emerging from an open field has fun at its core value. Casey loves to see how each guest and group really use the time and location to make it a unique experience. To add to the fun and creativity, each of the trailers has a name. Casey shares the old Nebo schoolhouse established in 1923 is Blue Skies’ sister property, and each of the trailers is named after an original schoolhouse teacher.

For many travelers and guests, it’s the sunsets and the resort’s namesake (blue skies) that lend to the wow factor. The light pollution for the resort is extremely low and it's popular with star gazers and night sky photographers. There is even a local star gazing guide that can be booked. Casey says there already have been several calls inquiring about reservations for an eclipse event happening in 2024.

It’s fun to reconnect with family and meet up with friends here and the Rowe family is no exception. Atticus is on the property two to three days a week taking care of all the landscaping and maintenance. Casey comes up about once a week and does marketing, promotion and social media for the property. Their sons, Locke, 8, and Shephard, 4, go often and the family stays in “Betty," their private trailer.

The stream of visitors to Blue Skies is continuing even with no official “grand opening” event and the property is fully booked through the summer.

The Rowes say there are plans in the works to possibly host a kite festival, and in bigger dreams, maybe even a music festival. The unique experience of staying at the Blue Skies is one that is suitable for all ages. The popularity and proximity to Fredericksburg makes this a fun and memorable option. The Rowe family’s vision of bringing a funky retro vibe is perfectly executed and will make your Instagram or Facebook feed stand out.
