Ben Workman, also known as Jumper Maybach, began his artistic journey later than most. After dealing with a tumultuous time in his life, he turned to art to help him overcome his hardships and more importantly, spread his message of love, peace, and community. It didn’t take long for the art world to notice him, and soon Maybach began showing his work all over the globe from Dubai to Venice and was also featured in the Galerie Du Louvre. Best known for his use of bright colors and unique abstract designs, Maybach was crowned “the Jackson Pollock of the 21st century” during a gallery show at the prestigious Alliance Française in 2017.
A Texan at heart, the artist returned to Houston to open up his first gallery in 2019. Maybach’s beautiful boutique in glitzy Uptown Park brings the vision for his brand full circle. “It's a beautiful, idyllic space - a hybrid gallery/showroom/boutique. It is elegant and accessible, as well as classy and modern,” says the artist. “We continue to work with a multitude of other creatives and businesses, and have many exciting things planned. We look forward to safer times.”
After a successful splashy opening last fall, the gallery exhibits not only Maybach’s art, but art from other well-known artists, is also a venue for performance art, and is home to Maybach’s line of luxury home goods and clothing. Because of the pandemic, Maybach has scaled back on in person events, and his team has relied heavily on appointments and digital resources to keep sales going. The realization of opening his own boutique is part of Maybach’s goal to make art more accessible “beyond pieces in showrooms, galleries, and museums.” His clothing and home goods are immediately recognizable, emblazoned with his bold designs.
Recently one of the handbags from his Dark Matrix series was recognized in the 2020 Design Excellence Awards by the Accessories Council. This nonprofit seeks to stimulate consumer awareness and demand for fashion industry accessory products.
