Helping clients find the perfect nest during life's transitions.

Navigating the complexities of real estate can be daunting, especially for seniors looking to downsize or relocate. Enter The Byrd Group, a beacon of expertise and compassion in the industry. Specializing in assisting seniors, they facilitate seamless transitions and empower their clients to leverage real estate as a pathway to financial security and new beginnings.

Tom and Tonya Byrd of The Byrd Group Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Partners, understand that real estate transactions are about more than buying and selling property. They’re often about finding the perfect nest for a new chapter of life. “We help buyers and sellers, regardless of their situation,” Tonya said. “Our slogan is to help people build, protect, and transfer their wealth through real estate.”

Many questions arise during life transitions such as purchasing a first home, downsizing, divorce, or death of a loved one. For example, when it’s time to downsize or move, would it be wiser to sell your current home or turn it into an investment property? The Byrd Group helps guide clients to the right answer.

Tonya is particularly well-equipped to assist seniors through downsizing or relocating. She is the regional ambassador of the Keller Williams Real Estate Planner Community – a network of agents focused on the senior population. With the heart of a teacher and numerous hours of study and training, she can help seniors make decisions about making necessary modifications to age in place in the home they love or moving to a retirement or 55-plus community.

She recently helped a senior moving from Florida to a local 55-plus community through Zoom, even helping her client pick out the finishes of a new home she didn’t see until move-in day. Always willing to go above and beyond, Tonya has even helped clients find in-home care, or vendors to help with repairs or cleaning out a property to be sold.

Tonya also understands the pros and cons of trusts, the probate process, and the importance of having a plan for transferring wealth and property during the coming ‘silver tsunami.’ She enjoys educating out-of-state clients about real estate laws in Georgia where it’s up to the buyer to discover anything wrong with the property. “I like figuring those things out and helping people get through it,” she said. Tonya often produces YouTube videos that provide home buyers and sellers with valuable information.

Although every deal is different, Tonya acknowledges that there are challenges with every real estate transaction. “I like helping people navigate through that and being the calm person,” she said. “Real estate can become very emotional.”

Tonya became a realtor in 2008 while living in Texas. She and Tom are Tennessee natives and when Tom’s career allowed them to move to Fayette County in 2015, they were excited to move closer to family. Tom joined Tonya’s real estate business in 2019, and although she’s been in the business longer, they are equal partners. Both sell real estate, but they each have strengths that complement each other and their business. Tonya is a people person, and Tom is great with numbers. “It’s yin and yang that blends perfectly,” she said. When they’re not working on real estate, the couple enjoys life with two retired greyhound racers—the fifth and sixth they’ve adopted since 2003.
