The landscape of self-care has changed dramatically over the years.  What was once personal and private is now curated on our social media timelines.  I love fitness classes. I need the energy of an instructor to wring every last frisson of energy from my body and leave me feeling absolutely amazing for the rest of the day.

But a few things resulted from the pandemic. Fitness classes waned, I bought a trendy bike and spin-classed my way to never wanting to spin again. I walked my dog until his eyes said “I still love you but put that leash on me again and I will destroy every shoe in your closet.” I also amassed a “personal gym” in the sense I have an elliptical, a few weights, and a bike lying around my basement.

Then I heard about streaming elliptical workouts on Club Sweat Digital. As you probably know, ellipticals are a gym staple and excellent for cardio endurance and burning calories, which is why they’re the most common household exercise machines (myself included). This digital application breaks the mold and allows you to use what you most likely already have and offers a variety of options both on and off the machine, for maximum effectiveness.

Club Sweat works the elliptical to the max - fast, slow, bounces, bounce down - with great music. The instructor (how they talk through these workouts, I’ll never know) takes you through on-machine weight lifts and sprints to break up the work-out and powers you up for the next leg of the class. No matter your fitness level, their world-class instructor's guide and encourage you and offer modifications to help you reach your goals. Whether climbing hills or taking on Tabata scares or excites you, there is a workout style for every fitness level.

Their classes kick up the routine and make the ellipsis full of possibilities. Strength training with weights tones your upper body while your legs build muscle. HIIT - high interval training - keeps your heart racing so your calorie burn continues long after your workout is over: up to 400 calories in 30 minutes! The effectiveness of the elliptical, the workout machine that has been at the forefront of fitness for decades, is unmatched. Ellipticals are comfortable (no getting used to a seat!), safe, and super effective.

The other cool thing is you can stream it on your TV. Which beats squinting into an iPhone to see what everyone’s doing while you’re pulsing up and down in full-on exercise mode.

Plus doing it all in your personal space makes you feel like you're there in the studio but without the hassle. Plus, as some of us may remember from years past gym-rat days, the effectiveness of the elliptical, the workout machine that has been at the forefront of fitness for decades, is unmatched. Ellipticals are comfortable (no getting used to a seat!), safe, and super effective. The fact that you can burn up to 500 calories in a quick 30-minute session speaks for itself!  Put yourself first in your self-care, and make sure your routine supports the life you want instead of living to support the routine you think you ought to have.
