The Daily: Greenwich Avenue's New Hot Spot

The Daily is a modern all day cafe that focuses on unique sandwiches, salads, quick meals and amazing coffee. The owner, Debra Ponzek, recently celebrated their 26th anniversary of town favorite deli, Aux Delices. She tells us that, “It was time to do a similar concept but with an entirely new menu and vibe.”

Located right on the Avenue, The Daily is a well designed space that was inspired by the travel that the owners have experienced. We asked Ponzek where this inspiration was drawn from and she said, “There are certain flavor profiles that we just love so we try to introduce where we can in the menu. We cook a lot at home and are always experimenting with various combinations that we think will work well in the stores.”

The creation of The Daily’s space compliments their food offerings and makes a perfect location for those who want to grab a bite to eat while shopping or catching the train.

As a cafe, they are keeping up with the growing and emerging trends within the food industry. Ponzek told Greenwich Lifestyle that they are seeing a shift toward plant based foods as more people are eating less meat. Probiotic foods and beverages continue to be popular amongst customers as well.

Guests can also choose from an array of warm breakfast sandwiches and burritos as well as overnight oats, granola parfaits, muffins and scones. For lunch, The Daily services grab and go sandwiches, flatbreads, and salads. Recently, comfort meals such as chicken pot pie, veggie chili, mac and cheese, and grilled moroccan chicken have all be introduced the menu as well. The Daily also bakes cookies fresh everyday to satisfy any sweet tooth.

One goal of The Daily was to keep the brand separate from Aux Delices. However, they have carried over some crowd favorite items from the menu including; their ginger tea, energy bites, and turkey chili. One thing that Ponzek said keeps the two brands separate is that The Daily is a more modern vibe that welcomes new customers to try their versatile offerings.

Ponzek credits her loyal, hardworking staff for helping overcome the challenges that come with opening a restaurant during the pandemic. While The Daily is staffed with long time employees, the cafe has faced staffing obstacles on the catering side of the business but they try to accommodate as many clients as possible but can be limited by lack of staff.

As for any other challenges, The Daily has been affected by supply issues with their packaging supplies. They have found difficulty in printing their coffee cups and bags as well as getting other supplies needed for the business.

Despite obstacles, The Daily has seen heavy foot traffic since its opening, gaining attention from many residents. One of Ponzek’s favorite items on the menu are the Mushreuben sandwich and the salmon and mango salad.

The cafe is open 7 days a week, opening at 7:00 A.M. and closing at 5 P.M. Monday through Saturday and from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.
