In 1965, Ford began the sport utility vehicle (SUV) trend when it introduced the original Bronco. For thirty years, the Bronco gathered a faithful following who were disappointed to see the brand discontinued in 1996.
However, the disappointment ended in late 2020 with the unveiling of an all-new Ford Bronco.
With style that harkens back to its origin, the 2021 Bronco incorporates the latest automotive advances while staying true to its tough, truck heritage. The Bronco comes in several different two and four door models, including the base Bronco, Bronco Sport and the First Edition. Trim packages include Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Wildtrak and Badlands.
The Sport model features five standard transmission/suspension modes known as G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain.) that are well-suited to the most common road and off-road conditions. These modes include sand, slippery, sport, eco and normal. Along with the standard five settings, the Badlands model also includes two additional modes, mud/ruts and rock crawl, that are perfect for harsh off-road situations. Finally, a special Sasquatch package can be added that features 35-inch tires that are designed for adventurous off-roaders.
Two door models come standard with a three-section removable roof system. Four door models offer four removable roof sections and come standard with a soft cloth top. Regardless of the model, the roof panels are easily removable by unlocking interior latches and storing the panels in the rear of the vehicle.
The standard powertrain includes a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four that makes 270 horsepower and 310 ft.-lbs. of torque. An optional twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 producing 310 horsepower and 400 ft.-lbs. of torque is also available. Later in the year, Ford will also offer a hybrid version.
Although tough, the Bronco offers a number of interior comforts, including SYNC 3 connectivity, wireless charging pad and a Bang & Olufsen luxury sound system.
The Bronco Sport starts at $26,820, with top-end models beginning at $38,000. The base Bronco starts at $38,500, and the top-of-the-line First Edition beginning at $57,410.
