The Friends of Kennesaw Mountain

Supporting one of Atlanta’s most important cultural resources

Donald Olds, President of the Friends of Kennesaw Mountain explains why you should get involved in a great organization that cares for Kennesaw Mountain's parks.

What can someone expect from a trail club workday?

We'll have some work for you on the trails and talk about the history or geology. It's not necessarily Civil War history. There's Creek and Cherokee history, too. You get a bit of education and recreation.

What effort is most crucial to maintaining Kennesaw Mountain?

Funding is a huge deal. We're trying to build a $60,000 bridge as part of a new trail around the mountain for people that have trouble with elevation. But there are other areas where we may need to bring in dirt or mulch or fencing.

What is your favorite memory of Friends of Kennesaw Mountain?

In six years, I've done more than 135 Eagle Scout projects. We did all kinds of fun stuff like fencing and putting up signs. The kids would work on building them, and I'd help place them. It helped me work with a lot of great people, not only the kids, but their parents or leaders.

The Friends of Kennesaw Mountain hosts trail club workdays on the second Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Visit friendsofkmnbp.org to learn more.
