Goodman’s designs and builds backyard retreats

Whether you need a quiet escape or a party patio, Goodman’s Firehouse Fence and Outdoor Living in Argyle can design and build the backyard of your dreams.

For almost 20 years, Jarrod Goodman has utilized his creativity and construction skills to build outdoor spaces where families can relax, entertain and make memories. Projects have included everything from basic fences and concrete work to elaborate pergolas and outdoor kitchens.

“If someone can visualize it, we can design and build it for them,” he said. “Our attention to detail and communication with homeowners throughout projects is unmatched – all at a competitive price without cutting corners.”

Goodman, a firefighter and paramedic with Euless Fire Department, founded his business in 2004 – the same year he joined the fire service. To start, most of his projects were fences and decks, but as the North Texas real estate market has grown, so has Goodman’s business.

“Now we have several crews,” he said. “We have the best framers in North Texas, and we’re experts at what we do. That’s what we hang our hat on.”

Goodman communicates directly with the homeowners to design projects. Through 3-D modeling, he can bring a project to life, showing customers everything from what it will look like to exactly where the sun will hit at certain times of the day. Customers can view the project built with different types of materials and even take a virtual tour to ensure every detail meets their expectations.

“I don’t like doing cookie cutter patios,” he said. “In some cases, you have a cookie cutter home, and the homeowner wants something awesome for the backyard.”

Goodman recently built a large, freestanding patio that showcases not only his design skills, but also all the available amenities.

“The overall look of the patio is just like their house,” he said. “On one side is a kitchen with every appliance imaginable, and the other side features a massive stone wall from top to bottom. There’s a TV, electric fireplace that changes colors, LED lighting, power blinds and a water feature on the outside of the wall.

“That was a fun one,” he said. “The focus is always on what the customer wants, and then we present them with some options to put our twist on it.”

Goodman’s does not currently have a storefront, but he’s considering opening a construction center in the future where customers could view renderings and products by appointment. It would also serve as a hub for his crews.

Goodman’s Firehouse Fence and Outdoor Living has worked primarily in Denton County, winning back-to-back Best of Denton County awards since 2019, and they’re currently finalists for the 2023 awards.

“As a homeowner myself, I always think about what I would want,” Goodman said. “What would I want? What would I expect? That’s our business plan.”
