EA: I think homeowners really notice the difference because everyone is working toward the same vision from the very beginning. As designers, we're in constant communication with our production team, so ideas don't get lost as the project moves from design into construction. That collaboration allows us to solve challenges early, make thoughtful decisions together, and keep the project moving forward. For the homeowner, it simply feels more seamless because they have one team invested in creating the best possible outcome.
Whether it’s a modern kitchen or a whole-home renovation, a space has to be as functional as it is breathtaking. How does your team study a family’s lifestyle to ensure the finished layout, custom elements, and flow genuinely improve how they live their daily life?
EA: Every family uses their home differently, so we always begin by understanding how they want to live in the space. For this particular project, one of the biggest opportunities was strengthening the connection between the interior and the backyard, which had an incredible view that wasn't being fully appreciated. We reconfigured the layout, introduced a 12-foot sliding glass door, and opened the kitchen and living areas so the home feels brighter, more connected, and naturally draws people together. Every design decision, from the custom island to the simplified material palette and organic modern finishes, was intentional. We wanted the home to feel calm, functional, and effortless, while creating spaces that support everything from everyday family life to entertaining friends.
High-end remodeling requires a seamless blend of aesthetics and lifestyle. Walk us through the “Design Development” phase. How do tools like 3D rendering software help clients accurately visualize their space, and how adaptable is this process when a client realizes they want to pivot mid-design?
LC: Design Development is one of my favorite parts of the process because it's where everything starts to feel real. Our team takes all of the ideas we've been discussing and translates them into detailed 3D renderings so clients can truly experience the space before construction ever begins. It's amazing to watch someone say, "Yes, that's exactly what I envisioned," or even realize they'd like to adjust something. Those conversations are incredibly valuable because making refinements during design is much easier than making changes once construction is underway. Our goal is for clients to feel completely confident before we ever pick up a hammer.
In our area, we have a beautiful mix of historic architecture, character-rich older homes, and sleek modern spaces. When you take on a major remodel, how do you balance respecting a property’s architectural soul while introducing contemporary luxury and modern amenities?
EA: One of the things I enjoy most is finding that balance. Older homes have details and character that you simply can't recreate, so we look for opportunities to celebrate those features rather than compete with them. At the same time, homeowners want spaces that function for today's lifestyle. The challenge—and the fun—is weaving modern conveniences, custom cabinetry, updated layouts, and luxury finishes into the home in a way that feels authentic. When it's done well, it doesn't feel like an old house with new finishes; it feels like the home has naturally evolved over time.
Every project you hand back to a client is deeply personal. After over two decades of curating luxury spaces, what keeps your design and production teams inspired to push boundaries, and what does delivering the "CROSS Standard" mean to you at the end of a project?
EA: For us, the “CROSS Standard” is about more than exceptional craftsmanship. It's delivering a great experience from start to finish through thoughtful design, clear communication, and attention to detail. Our goal is to create homes that not only look beautiful but genuinely improve the way our clients live every day. The best compliment we can receive is when a client tells us their finished home is even better than they imagined.

LC: One of the things I appreciate most about CROSS is that our commitment doesn't end when construction is complete. We genuinely care about the communities where we work because that's where our clients live, raise their families, and invest their lives. We look for opportunities to support local nonprofits, schools, and community events—not because it's expected, but because those organizations and initiatives are important to the people we serve.
