Dragons Care is a nonprofit organization that quietly but powerfully supports Carroll ISD teachers, staff, and School Resource Officers facing personal hardships. From illness or injury to family emergencies and unexpected home disasters, Dragons Care provides financial assistance and encouragement, reminding staff that no member of the Dragon community faces challenges alone. The organization is entirely run by parent volunteers, and every penny raised for individual grants goes directly to the employee in need.
In 2025, Dragons Care distributed more than $80,000 in grants to Carroll ISD employees. These funds come from the generosity of community members who give directly to support staff facing hardship. This direct approach allows Dragons Care to respond immediately when a staff member experiences a sudden challenge, ensuring timely support and care.
One example of Dragons Care’s impact involves elementary school teacher Maile McKinney. During a powerful storm in Southlake, a large tree crashed into her home, damaging both the roof and the ceiling. Faced with extensive repairs, Maile might have felt overwhelmed, but Dragons Care stepped in. Along with a grant, she received flowers and a handwritten note reminding her that the Dragon community stood with her. “I have never witnessed this level of support in other districts,” Maile said. “It shows how much our community cares for one another.”
Another story highlights Carroll ISD receptionist Diana Pitman, who faced a personal crisis earlier this year when her home flooded with sewage water on the same day her daughter was hosting a bridal shower. The damage required major repairs and forced Diana and her two dogs to live in a single upstairs bedroom. The situation was especially traumatic because it was the first major challenge she had faced since her husband passed. Carroll ISD colleagues helped move furniture and provide practical support, and Dragons Care provided funds raised by the community to help with repairs. Diana reflected, “I have been truly blessed by my CISD family. Their support made all the difference.”
Stories like these illustrate the mission of Dragons Care and the meaningful difference that direct community support can make. By subscribing to the Dragons Care newsletter and following the organization on Facebook, supporters can see staff needs as they arise and respond directly, providing immediate help to employees in need. All information and subscription options are available at www.dragons-care.org. Through the generosity of volunteers and donors, Dragons Care continues to strengthen the Dragon community, ensuring that every staff member knows they are valued, supported, and never alone.
Dragons Care is more than financial support. It is a reminder that the Carroll ISD family extends far beyond classrooms and offices. Whether delivering a grant, a note of encouragement, or simply a helping hand during a crisis, Dragons Care embodies the spirit of a community that rises together in times of need. In a world where hardships can feel isolating, Dragons Care ensures that no Dragon stands alone.
