Investing in your Home

In the realm of luxury home renovations, one name stands out as a beacon of unparalleled elegance and sophistication - The Interior. With a reputation built on eighteen years of exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail, The Interior has become synonymous with transforming houses into timeless works of art. The company is driven by the belief that your home isn’t just a place to sleep or eat, but rather an investment, and that remodeling your home is a gift to both your present self and your future one.

The Genesis of The Interior

Mark Lafferty, founder and owner of The Interior, discovered his love of design early on during his education at the University of Philadelphia, known for its outstanding textile program. His career, which involved supplying textiles to apparel brands, took him all over the world, from Los Angeles and New York to as far as Hong Kong and Taipei. As Mark’s career evolved, he started becoming drawn to home textiles and home furnishings, and soon he was thinking of how he could pivot to dive deeper into those interests.

The answer came as he was helping realtors stage homes. He discovered that these huge mansions weren’t selling - they were often on the market for four to six months. Mark recalls, “I thought, we really gotta update this. What’s the simplest update we can do? Change the countertops, take a bar down, make it all one level countertop versus having that bar there. So when they turned the corner and saw this new kitchen, they could envision changing the floors, and what it did was that it helped cut the sell time of the house immensely, from six months to two months.”

From there, The Interior, a luxury home renovation and interior design company, was born.

Philosophy and Approach

More than anything else, The Interior prides itself on having an incredible team of designers who work collaboratively to bring each client’s vision to life. Says Mark: “I want to be seen as the coordinator - I coordinate and oversee all home renovations, but I come into everything as I’m needed.” When clients hire The Interior, they aren’t getting just one person, but rather an entire group of people dedicated to making your dreams a reality.

The Interior doesn’t employ a cookie-cutter approach. Instead, they offer a complimentary consultation to ensure they’re truly capturing every client’s individual taste. “We come in, take our notes, meet with you, see the vision that you have, and then come back and present you with what we feel like is going to be a teaser,” Mark says. “Then we take it from there and give you some quotes, some deals, and look at our manufacturers.”

The Interior also focuses on taking into account your lifestyle and makes sure to work with - and even repurpose - the existing items in your home in order to achieve the maximum return on investment. That might look like providing materials that are stain or fur resistant if you have dogs and/or kids, or choosing material that goes along with furniture and pieces that you already have so you can remix as needed. The Interior makes a point to use everything - if you have a good piece, they’re not going to get rid of that piece. Instead, they’ll take what you already have and make it beautiful again, reimagining how it might look in a new context.

Craftsmanship and Attention to Detail

Another detail that sets The Interior apart is its unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail when sourcing materials, particularly its textiles. The company boasts an incredible selection of both handmade and machine-woven rugs sourced from renowned manufacturers all across the globe. You can request samples to peruse at your leisure, or you can speak to a professional designer who can help you make a selection at no extra cost.

The Interior is renowned for its versatility in design, catering to a diverse range of tastes and styles. Whether it's a classic, regal ambiance with ornate detailing or a sleek, modern aesthetic with clean lines, The Interior has the expertise to bring any vision to life.
