The Light That Changed Everything

Pearl & Company transforms resilience into handcrafted candles, meaningful rituals, and memorable gatherings designed to bring people together everywhere.

Sometimes, the smallest rituals can bring the greatest comfort. For Pearl & Company founder Kelsey Davey, that ritual was simply lighting a candle.

In June 2022, while working as an on-duty police officer, Kelsey responded to an emergency outside a local grocery store. While breaking a car window to save a life, she suffered a serious wrist injury that changed her life in an instant. During the challenging recovery that followed, Kelsey found herself navigating the loss of independence and the everyday freedoms she once took for granted.

In those difficult days, quiet moments of self-care became a source of comfort. Lighting a candle during her nighttime beauty routine offered a sense of tranquility and stability. Slowly, that simple ritual became something more—a reminder that even during the darkest seasons, there can still be light.

That experience eventually inspired Pearl & Company, a Massachusetts-based candle brand rooted in hope, resilience, and connection. Today, Kelsey thoughtfully hand-pours each candle herself, using her injured hand—a meaningful act that represents reclaiming her strength and creating something beautiful from an experience that changed her life.

Made in small batches, Pearl & Company candles feature premium fragrance oils, a plant-based wax blend, and 100% cotton wicks free of lead and zinc. They are non-toxic, phthalate-free, cruelty-free, gluten-free, vegan, and made without artificial dyes. Each candle offers approximately 40 to 50 hours of clean-burning fragrance.

But behind every founder is a great team—and at Pearl & Company, that team happens to have four legs.

The company’s namesake - Pearl, is Kelsey’s Great Pyrenees and holds the distinguished title of CEO. Pearl came into Kelsey’s life during one of her most difficult chapters and remained beside her through every stage of rebuilding, from hard days to late-night candle-pouring sessions.

For Kelsey, Pearl represented something she desperately needed at the time: unconditional comfort and unwavering loyalty. Naming the company after her wasn’t a branding decision. It was a thank-you.

As CEO, Pearl now supervises the workshop from a strategically selected napping spot, enthusiastically greets wholesale visitors, and serves as a daily reminder that sometimes the best kind of leadership is simply showing up.

Then there’s Charlotte Mae - Puppy Intern, the newest member of the team. She brings plenty of enthusiasm, curiosity, and the firm belief that almost anything within reach could potentially be a toy or snack. Customers have quickly fallen in love with her, and Kelsey sees something fitting in watching a puppy discover the world while she continues building and growing her business.

Ezra - heads Security, approaching her position with admirable seriousness—particularly when the mail carrier arrives. Her official credentials may remain questionable, but her commitment to protecting Pearl & Company headquarters certainly does not.

Rounding out the team is Marvin - Director of Surveillance, who quietly observes the neighborhood from whichever window or porch offers the best vantage point. He may not say much, but very little escapes his attention.

The furry crew has become part of the Pearl & Company personality. Customers look forward to seeing them in the brand’s content, adding an authentic, playful glimpse into the real life happening behind every hand-poured candle.

That same sense of connection extends to Pearl & Company’s private candle parties. Designed for bridal and baby showers, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, corporate events, or simply an evening with friends, the gatherings offer a creative twist on traditional candle making. Because the candles are already poured, guests can skip the hot wax and instead personalize their vessels using dried flowers and decorative details.

Each two-hour experience allows guests to choose their preferred candle scent while enjoying something increasingly valuable: uninterrupted time together.

Kelsey’s vision also reaches beyond candles. Inspired by her own experiences, she hopes to eventually establish a college foundation supporting children who have lost a first-responder parent to suicide, helping provide brighter possibilities during an unimaginably difficult chapter.

At its heart, Pearl & Company was never simply about making candles. It grew from Kelsey’s search for comfort, healing, and purpose—and the loyal companion who stayed beside her through it all.

Now, every candle poured, gathering shared, and wagging tail behind the scenes carries that story forward: a reminder that light can arrive in unexpected ways, and sometimes, it stays right by your side.

“Pearl & Company is a reminder that light can arrive in unexpected ways, bringing comfort, connection, hope, and strength when we need it most.”
