The Passion in the Paint

Devoted to the Dye of Life, Award-Winning Hometown Artist Cindy Welch Salutes Castle Rock’s Handsome Heritage by Way of Watercolor

She found herself drawn to the surprise element, marveling at the fluid action of the pigment mingling with the water to deposit as passion on paper.

She chose the right path.

Selecting the solid commercial art program over the fine art curriculum due to its income potential was assuredly the responsible route, even if her heart lay elsewhere. Despite her desire to depict beauty on a substrate, the fact that she was dynamite at commercial art design only compounded the verdict. Cindy Welch lived her priorities, and her future family’s foundation would surpass all other needs and wants.

Life’s way of upending itself eventually breathed the gift of self-actualization into Cindy’s existence. In 2007 she opted to do something sensibly selfish when she made her return to the world of watercolor—an endeavor performed strictly for the sheer pleasure of practice and nothing else. She found herself drawn to the surprise element, marveling at the fluid action of the pigment mingling with the water to deposit as passion on paper. She also found she had unleashed the career that shimmered behind the scenes in her psyche.

Cindy’s mastery of the most unforgiving medium is imbued in her work, now published in books and hanging in exhibitions, galleries and private collections. While her method of enhancing realism with the hues of the summer flowers has gifted her with numerous honors and awards, she has remained grateful, eternally humble for her epiphany and the manifest mandate of the Almighty.

Castle Rock has warmly embraced Cindy and the watercolors that so artistically acknowledge the town’s landmarks and rich history. Atop a host of accolades, she was awarded top honors in the 2018 Art Poster contest for her painting “100th Douglas County Fair and Rodeo” and recently unveiled a watercolor of the Castle Rock Museum, commissioned by the Historic Preservation Board and the Public Art Commission. In gratitude, she quietly returns 10% of her commission when painting for nonprofits.

She chose the right path.
