Guntersville is just thirty-seven miles from Huntsville, a short trip that our family makes daily, along with many Huntsvillians. If you have not spent much time in Guntersville, it’s time to join in on one of the best kept secrets in our state. Come along for a day-trip filled with natural beauty, history and leisure activities that promise a memorable day trip for visitors of all ages.
As you drive on Hwy 431 from Huntsville to Guntersville, you can catch glimpses of the sparkling waters before you cross the River Bridge to our quaint downtown. You may want to grab a coffee at Moody Brews Coffee & Lounge before heading up to Lake Guntersville State Park, where sunrise is a spectacular way to start your day! Spanning 6,000 acres, the Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. A leisurely hike on one of the trails, such as the Tom Bevill Trail, promises a tranquil atmosphere, where the early morning light filters through towering trees. Don't miss the chance to spot some of the local wildlife; the area is renowned for its bald eagle sightings, especially during the cooler months.
After working up an appetite, head to one of Guntersville’s cozy brunch spots like The Rock House Eatery or Homecoming Cafe. Both options offer charming ambiance and delicious food that will fuel you up for your day’s adventures.
With your energy replenished, it's time to explore Guntersville's rich history and culture. The Guntersville Museum, set in a historic rock Armory, offers fascinating insights into the area's past. Exhibits range from Native American artifacts to detailed accounts of the town's development throughout the years.
Next, immerse yourself in the downtown scene while strolling the flower-lined streets filled with quaint, locally owned shops and boutiques. Downtown offers something for everyone with several stores for women, men and children; gift shops, antiques and interiors, specialty food and wine and art. The ladies will definitely want to check out Blossom Boutique for boutique clothing and Generations for shoes. Bubbas for the menfolk. Corbitt & Co. and Venture Out have something for everyone and Ana Banana is an adorable baby boutique.. We have several interior shops including Victoria’s, owned by a Huntsville native. Bakers on Main, Stach & Co. and Pure & Simple offer something for everyone and all occasions! Downtown is captivating, reflecting the vibrant community spirit of Guntersville. If you are lucky, you may catch a local musician performing at Errol Allen Park.
For lunch, stop in one of the restaurants downtown like Cafe 336 or Pizza Ed. You can also walk a few blocks to the City Harbor and dine al fresco at La Esquina or Nash’s. All items served with a side of stunning views!
In the afternoon, take to the waters for a different perspective of Guntersville’s beauty. Rent a pontoon from All Seasons Boat Rental or Islands Boat Rental who also rents kayaks and offers guided tours. What an adventurous way to enjoy the natural surroundings!

Both offer spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains, making it a perfect spot to relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. As the day winds down, cap it off with dinner at one of the downtown restaurants. The Old Town Stock House combines local flavors with modern culinary techniques, offering a dining experience that is both authentic and innovative.

Find a cozy spot along the shoreline, aboard a sunset cruise, on a kayak to the Hambrick Bat Cave or with a sundowner at Levi’s On the Lake to witness the sky transform into a canvas of vibrant colors, reflecting over the water.
