Strolling through The Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor is like taking a walk through a traditional New England village. Opened in 2004, the pedestrian-friendly outdoor lifestyle center was specifically designed to mimic a New England downtown, with spacious walkways, or a promenade. Its unique outdoor spaces create gathering places for visitors to meet with family and friends. Automobile access down the mall's "main street," Evergreen Way, allows convenient parking in front of your favorite stores and restaurants.
Evergreen Walk has an array of retail and dining options, including Apple, Anthropologie, Burtons Grill & Bar, Carhartt, L.L. Bean, Heat Tavern, Old Navy, New Balance, Pottery Barn, The Paperstore, Williams Sonoma, and Stonewall Kitchen.
“There are several new retailers coming to Evergreen Walk that we are very excited about,” said Elizabeth Zigmonth, a company spokesperson, who noted Whole Foods Market, Sunglass Hut and Golf Lounge 18, Deka Lash, and My Salon Suites will open this winter. “With new, experiential-focused tenants opening at the property such as Golf Lounge 18, we are excited for our customers to come and see what the new Evergreen Walk is all about.”
Several recently opened businesses in Evergreen Walk include Shake Shack, The Goddard School, Nike Well Collective, Kung Fu Tea, J.Jill, Lenscrafters, Lovesac and Massage Envy.
When it opened in 2004, Evergreen Walk became the premier shopping option east of the river, followed by an 87,000-square-foot expansion anchored by L.L. Bean in 2007. The open-air atmosphere, convenient parking and diverse options continue to make the venue a popular destination for visitors.
Evergreen Walk is also known for its family-friendly, free community programming and events throughout the year, including a summer children's series called Summer Playdates, a summer concert series with the Town of South Windsor Parks & Recreation Department and its Free Friday Movie Night on the Green on select Fridays throughout the summer. The center also hosts a back to school event with a backpack and supply drive and a fall harvest market with local artisan vendors selling crafts, candles, plants, home décor and more. The activities do not slow down when the winter weather hits.
“Each season we kick off the holidays with a special tree lighting event with Santa, who arrives at the property on a South Windsor Fire Truck at our TorchLight Parade. We have live music and other festive fun,” Elizabeth said. "We also plan to open an inside space where the community can gather and enjoy some fun art events throughout the holidays and beyond. There's always something special going on all year."
The connection to Connecticut and beyond is what makes The Shops at Evergreen Walk not only a shopping and dining destination, but also a gathering place for the community. A walking trail to promote health and wellness will open soon. The three-mile trail around the property complete with signage and a passport program is meant to entice people to exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
“We are a hub for the community to participate in signature events and programs,” said Elizabeth, adding that when the walking trail opens, the community is invited to attend events that highlight health and wellness. “We are a place for families to gather and enjoy a day of shopping, events, delicious restaurants and so much more.”
