The Sicilian Butcher Offers World Record Drink and Cuisine

The Sicilian Butcher combines skilled butchery and creative dishes all set in a modern-casual restaurant. The choose-your-own-meatball and build-your-own charcuterie board experience is unlike anywhere else. The hand-rolled meatballs and saucy attitude pair well with fresh-made pastas and Italian butcher-style meats. Located in Phoenix, this unique experience is perfectly paired with a drink that was recently named "World's Largest."

“The Negroni is my favorite cocktail,” says Joey Maggiore, owner of the Sicilian Butcher. “There is no place better than the Sicilian Butcher to hold this Guinness World Records title.”

Sheldon Wiley is the director of Beverage at the Maggiore Group, which owns the Sicilian Butcher. He currently holds three Guinness World Records.

"I live my life without limiting beliefs. I push myself in order to not only grow as a person but quite simply to live my life to the fullest. I never want to be the person on the couch admiring other people’s accomplishments, but I would prefer to BE the inspiration," Sheldon says.

For Joey, it was simple.

How Sicilian Butcher Created a World Record Negroni for the Largest Drink

"Why not pair this world record title for the Negroni with a current Guinness World Records holder, Sheldon Wiley? The reason we chose the Negroni is because the Sicilian Butcher is a refined, rebirthed Italian/Sicilian concept. To accompany what we’re doing with our food, Sheldon is here to make the best cocktails. The Negroni is my favorite cocktail, and Sheldon makes the best Negroni outside of Florence, Italy. We feel Sheldon makes the Negroni so good they may change the name to ‘the Sheldon.’ We now have our Negroni on the map!"

A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to witness Sheldon the day of the contest. Sheldon filled an oak barrel with 14 cases each of Carpano, Malfy Gin Originale and Campari.

Once the drink was made, guests had the chance to purchase a Negroni tapped straight from the barrel for $5 each. A portion of the proceeds from each drink sold went to the Pearce Family Foundation, a local nonprofit committed to financially supporting bills at the home for families who have a child suffering from a chronic or life-threatening illness as they get back on their feet.

The Difficulty of Breaking a Record: Sicilian Butcher

“This was the most challenging Guinness World Records title I’ve ever done,” Sheldon says. “It really could not have been possible without the help of my team at the Sicilian Butcher and our partners, Carpano Antica Formula, Malfy Gin Originale and Campari.”

The Sicilian Butcher is unlike anything on the market today—a full-service restaurant where you can build your own creations.

"The recipes are a mixture of my own as well as my father, Tomaso Maggiore," Joey says.

He suggests the Mafalde pasta dish to accompany your Negroni.
