The Skinny on Cocktails

By the time we’ve rung in the new year, most of us are coming off a six-week-long carbohydrate bender made up of things like cornbread dressing, pumpkin pie, and eggnog. Sound familiar? Once all of that is under our belts (literally), it’s time to cut back. The good news is, there are still lighter libations to be had. Both Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille and 1799 Kitchen & Cocktails offer cocktail menus that will please all tastes, including those that prefer beverages on the lighter side
after the holidays.

1799 Kitchen & Cocktails, located in the Harpeth Hotel, is a stylish and elegant way to enjoy the charms of downtown Franklin. Their Aperol Sour is light and fruity, containing Aperol, gin, orgeat, lemon juice, and an egg white. And what’s healthier than an egg white?

Perry’s chic décor and ambient lighting will knock the chill off any winter’s night. The Bubbly Black Rose is a fizzy alternative to a hearty glass of red wine. With vodka, blackberry puree, lemon juice, black tea and champagne, this cocktail will leave you feeling as light as the rose petal that it’s garnished with.

Aperol Sour

 Ingredients: 1 oz Aperol, 1 oz gin, .5 oz orgeat, .75 oz lemon juice, 1 egg white

Instructions: Dry shake all ingredients. Add ice. Shake again. Double strain.

Bubbly Black Rose 

Ingredients: 1.5 oz vodka, .5 oz elderflower liqueur, .5 oz lemon juice, .5 oz blackberry
puree, 1 oz black tea, .5 oz brut champagne.

Instructions: Add all ingredients except the champagne into mixing glass. Add ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into flute. Top with champagne.
