Want to soak up Michigan’s natural wonders without roughing it too much? Try glamping, a fairly new concept that first appeared in the UK in 2006.
This all-the-frills method of camping is the perfect way to get back to the great outdoors without sacrificing the comforts of the great indoors. With spring just around the corner, we’ve researched some of the state’s finest spots that are sure to get your glamping vibe going.
A comfortable and semi-secluded tent not far from downtown Newaygo and just 45 minutes from Grand Rapids, this cozy glampsite takes the hassle out of setting up camp. The comfy three-season tent is set up with a queen bed on an elevated wooden deck that protects you from the elements. There’s no running water, only a porta-potty, but showers can be had at a nearby campsite for a small fee.
The peaceful forest views and friendly hospitality make this a top-notch glamping spot. Situated along the shores of the Manistee River’s North Branch, the Rippling Bluff is a jolly bell tent that’s furnished with colorful linens and fun extras like a blazing campfire area, hanging hammocks and a grill.
The Fields of Michigan
This hidden gem is a high-end glamping destination in South Haven. Surrounded by the natural charm of a local blueberry farm, you can unwind and recharge near natural attractions like Lake Michigan, the Black River and sprawling acres of national forest. Each tent is immaculately clean and outfitted with stylish decor that includes a plush king bed, soft linens, a full bathroom and electricity.
This glamping getaway, located just outside of Traverse City, offers a retro-style RV camper complete with a spiffy, mod interior that offers a comfortable place to disconnect. The hosts provide coffee supplies, outdoor seating, lighting and other essentials -- even some friendly chickens that may come by to say hello.
Little Chick Farm’s Airstream Dream
Set on an organic farm on Central Lake, near Boyne City, this cozy Airstream is a real blast from the past, an original 1969 RV that’s been lovingly cared for over the years. The lightly updated, immaculate interior boasts a single bed and sofa bed along with a full bathroom with tub and shower. The yard has a covered deck space with a hammock and cafe tables overlooking a firepit and gardens. Glamping lets you combine the best of both worlds – soaking up the serenity of beautiful nature while still enjoying all the comforts of home. Don’t forget to pack the wine!
Taking inspiration from traditional forest ranger cabins, the two-story Outpost Treehouse is located 30 minutes outside Kalamazoo. The property encompasses 65 acres of white pine forest and features a 12 x 14 foot platform tent for additional glamping space. Sleeping quarters are stationed in the upper level, where solar-powered, modern conveniences such as A/C and hot running water put the glam in glamping.
Hit The Open Road
We love to pack up the car and hit the open road — especially when the ride is just as luxe as the destination. We asked the experts at Lincoln of Troy (lincolnoftroy.com) for their favorite pick: Hands-down, they love the 2022 Lincoln Black Label Aviator Grand Touring.
A three-row luxury SUV, the Aviator is Lincoln’s first-ever plug-in hybrid model — offering advanced technology with a new level of effortless performance — and this year’s version flourishes with extras. It will kneel to greet you, scan the road ahead for uneven pavement and even allow you to unlock the car with your smartphone instead of a key.
The Lincoln Black Label is created for clients seeking the ultimate in a luxury experience, with premium materials in curated designer themes and membership privileges. An authentic concert-hall sound experience emanates from 28 speakers, 30-way seat adjustability includes a massage option and additional lumbar support, a wireless charging pad and a Wi-Fi hotspot are standard — and, of course, it’s gorgeous.
“We’re always thinking about the next, best way to elevate luxury for our clients,” says Joy Falotico, president of the Lincoln Motor Company. “Aviator arrives at this perfect intersection – where strength and beauty meet performance and technology.”
