Christmas is a time of tradition – a time in which special memories are born and passed down from generation to generation.
For some of us, the memories arise from attending family gatherings or festive holiday parties. For others, they may come from singing carols or attending midnight church services on Christmas Eve.
However, there is one thing that tends to unite us all – watching our favorite Christmas movies and television shows. There is nothing that evokes memories of Christmases from our childhoods like spending a little time with our favorite holiday characters.
Many people prefer older fare like Miracle on 34th Street or White Christmas, while others prefer more modern takes such as Elf and The Christmas Chronicles. Regardless of the vintage, Christmas programs are timeless.

1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Originally released in theaters in 1989, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation has become one of the most popular and quotable movies of all time. Star Chevy Chase was truly on his “A game” when he made this classic.
2. A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version)
Few stories capture the magic that can come from Christmas like Charles Dickens’ immortal classic, A Christmas Carol. The transformation from Ebenezer Scrooge from a miser into a philanthropist is both hopeful and heartwarming.
3. Scrooged
Scrooged is a modern-day version classic of the Ebenezer Scrooge tale in which Saturday Night Live alumnus Bill Murray takes center stage. This adaptation is sure to warm the hearts of the most cynical of viewers.
4. A Charlie Brown Christmas
Originally aired in 1965, few animated specials have captured the hearts and minds of viewers like this one. Featuring the popular Peanuts gang, this television special remains must-see TV to this day.
5. Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas
After its release in 1966, How The Grinch Stole Christmas became an instant classic that has been shared by families for generations.
6. It’s A Wonderful Life
Few films have withstood the test of time like the immortal Jimmy Steward Classic, It’s A Wonderful Life. During the movie, we get to witness kindly George Bailey fall into the depths of despair before being shown his worth by a fledgling angel.
