In 2020, she brought that vision home by opening One Common, a lifestyle boutique in the heart of Snohomish.
"People come into a boutique looking for a unique experience," Laura says. "They're looking for that special gift for a newborn baby or an item that they want to bring into their home to have something meaningful around them. I love being able to create that experience and some inspiration for our customers."
One Common is much more than a clothing store. "Sustainability is a big deal to me and means the ability to make small changes and to have those small changes add up to make a big impact," she explains. "I'm making changes in my life that are meaningful by having no-tox products and having a more wholesome lifestyle. I'm doing that myself with four kids and a busy life; I'm trying to make sustainable changes that are digestible."
This philosophy is reflected throughout the boutique, where customers discover everything from handcrafted home accents to timeless wardrobe staples designed to last for years. The store also features themed lifestyle collections—including beach, cabin, resort, and country—that inspire customers to create spaces and wardrobes that feel authentic to them. "I really like being able to bring big brands like Birkenstock, Pendleton, and True Grit to Snohomish while still highlighting local collections," Laura says. "There are so many brands in our store that are local to Washington. I truly enjoy providing local vendors the opportunity to share their ideas and products with our customers."
Her passion for supporting local businesses also directly supports her commitment to sustainability.
"Buyers have a lot of power and our choices matter," she says. "When you get to the brass tacks of sustainability, it is plastic free, less waste, and less gas. By giving local vendors an opportunity to showcase their great ideas, we're using local products and not shipping them halfway across the world. The revenue they're earning is going straight back into our economy."
While One Common has become known for its carefully selected clothing and home décor, Laura says what she treasures most is not what is on the shelves, but the moments shared with customers. Many visitors return time and again not only because of the products, but because of the welcoming atmosphere and the personal connections they make while browsing the boutique.
"When you walk through a boutique, it's an experience, a feeling, a lifestyle," she says. "Seeing people walk through the boutique and have that experience resonate with them is what I really love about it."
