Dr. Anne Morgan looks forward to Mondays. What started as a journey out of her comfort zone led her ironically back to her comfy chair where she shares her health and wellness insights every Monday with her digital audience, the Thrive Tribe. A former workaholic ER physician and mother of two daughters, Dr. Morgan was never the social media type, but when you start your new practice on the brink of a pandemic shutdown, you learn to adapt. Sometimes you even take a healthy dose of your own medicine.
“I often challenge my patients to get out of their comfort zones and try something new,” says Dr. Morgan, CEO and Lead Physician of Thrive Once More in Kansas City. “So, I had to take my own advice and launch into the social media world. “I started a weekly video series last year called ‘Mondays with Morgan’ where I share wellness tips from a spot in my house that has become my ‘Monday Chair.’ It was so hard for me in the beginning, but now I look forward to my Monday videos, and it has been really fun.”
Dr. Morgan knows all about journeys into healthy new territory. Her career in Emergency Medicine where she practiced in the ER for 20 years was rewarding, but it had taken its toll on her health. After years of working the night shift so she could be a stay-at-home mother during the day, she was worn out by age 40.
“I was tired but anxious at the same time,” she says. “I suffered debilitating migraines. I really assumed this was normal life and wondered when it would start to feel better.”
While searching for answers, she became a patient of an integrative care provider.
“Within six months I was feeling so much better,” she says. “Nothing else had changed. I was still very busy and sleep-deprived, but I was handling life better equipped. My headaches improved, and I lost 10 pounds that I had struggled to lose for years. I became impassioned about how I had found a more impactful and natural way to find vitality, and I wanted to share this passion with others.”
Dr. Morgan launched Thrive Once More in December 2019 and never looked back.
“I absolutely feel I’m doing what I was meant to do. Building relationships with my patients has been the most rewarding stage of my medical career yet.”
Specializing in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Thyroid Optimization, and Wellness Consulting, Dr. Morgan has structured an integrative plan to help both male and female patients live their optimal lives. She combines her background in traditional medicine to treat patients as a whole person, beginning with labs to get an overall picture of health and then delving deeper into hormonal health, nutrition and thyroid function.
“I connect with my patients in a way that is not typical of a traditional physician-patient relationship,” she says. “They feel supported, and the journey is a truly a partnership we take together.”
Dr. Morgan works with all ages, especially patients over 40 who notice declined energy, weight gain (usually around the middle), difficulty sleeping, anxiety and lack of motivation. Using individualized treatment programs, she emphasizes lifestyle goals including nutrition, exercise, and spiritual and mental balance.
“It’s so much more than just hormone replacement,” she says, adding that she only uses natural hormone treatments. “Synthetic, traditional hormones will slightly increase your risk for certain cancers or blood clots, but this is definitely not the case with the bioidentical hormones. Also, many hormone replacement programs simply prescribe the same regimen to every patient. At Thrive Once More, we focus on individual needs and tailoring treatment that is right for you.”
Dr. Morgan often encourages her patients to explore what brings them joy. For her, it’s the joy of home—especially over the past year.
“I have spent years collecting estate sale and secondhand items, and it brings me so much joy. My house is full of things that I love and treasure that were someone else’s treasures before me. Home is where I can enjoy life with my wonderful daughters (ages 16 and 22) who keep me on my toes and laughing.”
