Tim's Smoked Manhattan

The Smoked Manhattan blends the smokiness of BBQ with the smoothness of bourbon. “If you want to try something new and go for an adventure, this is the drink for you,” declared Tim Taylor, the main bartender at One19North. Tim has been smoking various cocktails for over five years, but the way he crafts his Smoked Manhattan is unlike any other. “This drink can be created in numerous ways, but I have never seen anyone else make it the way I do.” In the mood for something smoky? Stop by One19North and ask Tim for his signature, Smoked Manhattan, or follow the instructions below to create it yourself. Disclaimer: Tim’s signature cherries are soaked in a blend of 24 different types of alcohol – a challenge to replicate.

Ingredients

2 oz. Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon

½ oz. Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth

2 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters

1 dash Black Walnut Bitters

1 Dark sweet cherry soaked in alcohol

1 pile of woodchips

Instructions

1. Combine the bourbon, sweet vermouth, bitters, and the cherry in one cocktail glass with ice.

2. Using a culinary torch, light a small stack of wood chips on fire until they catch flame.

3. Place a chilled glass over the wood chips to trap the smoke for 5-10 seconds.

4. Using a ceramic plate to trap the smoke in the glass, pour the smoke over the cocktail glass and enjoy.
