'Tis the Season for Cheer

Both Country Christmas and Uptown Christmas evoke simpler times this holiday season

Whether you are spending Christmas in the city or Christmas in the country, embrace the season at every turn in Montgomery, Old Town Spring, and The Woodlands. Slow down and catch the Christmas spirit as you stroll uptown Montgomery and downtown to walk through local shops. Round out your shopping spree in The Woodlands at Hughes Landing by dining at one of the many restaurants featuring festive seasonal specials. Our local shop owners have some special holiday treats lined up this year with holiday provisions served up in style.

Uptown Christmas in the Woodlands

There's something about the bustle of a hotel during the holidays that feels special. The Woodlands Resort, already known for its elegant confines, has recently been renovated, and they are showcasing Christmastime at every turn

"Post renovation, the resort boasts five restaurants on property," says Kelly McCourt, Director of Marketing. "Harrisons provides a serene lakeside view with seating options by fireplaces inside or outside."

An annual photo op tradition is Breakfast with Santa, where The Woodlands Resort is an official drop-off location for Toys For Tots. Stay and pen your letter and drop it in the mailbox to the North Pole.

As the first Curio resort in Texas, The Woodlands Resort is ready to welcome guests to its premier hospitality, a myriad of amenities that include a tennis center, a Peloton-equipped fitness center, pickleball, yoga, in-room spa offerings, plus bike and kayak rentals.

The Spruce Boutique, the resort's retail store, focuses on local artisans and fashion designers from the area, a candle company, and wood pieces; think Katie Kime's gorgeous pajamas in classic toile-inspired prints. Locals take advantage of Sparkling Saturdays, where shoppers get a discount from 12-4 each Saturday in December.

As part of the Woodlands 50th anniversary, The Woodlands Resort partners with Cynthia Woods Mitchel Pavilion for tickets for its guests to ice skate, a timeless holiday tradition bundled up sipping on hot cocoa.

When staying at the hotel, head to old town Spring for the row of quaint shops. When shopping for the perfect toy gifts, Pop's Toys &Collectibles is a win for the little and big kids on your list. Owner Chris "Pops" Nolen has curated the top-selling toys this season.

As one might expect, vintage toys are in high demand this year. Everything from Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Legos and other 80's and 90's Toys will be wrapped up under the Christmas tree.

Snacking is the best part of the holidays, and Popps Parlor & Popcorn in Gentry Square has many beautifully displayed popcorn flavors. From savory to sweet popcorn, there is a flavor for everyone on your list. For a nostalgic feel, purchase a jar of Amish Country red-colored kernels for a festive touch to your Christmas movie night marathon.

Looking for a quick hostess gift or the final touch for your party décor or holiday table setting? Piney Rose Flowers & Décor has assembled an array of exquisite seasonal floral décor with deep crimson berries, fragrant green pines, and fresh blooms. There are multiple arrangements for all your floral needs.

Country Christmas in Montgomery

When meandering through historic Montgomery, you’ll find vintage finds along with sought after gifts for loved ones. The locals favorite one-stop shop for popular men's and ladies' gifts is at the Rancher's Daughter. With a cozy wine bar inside the boutique, wine tastings by the glass are popular, and quite a few men have been known to pull up a chair to watch the game while they sip on a cold beer.

This quaint boutique features top trending brands and The Rancher's Daughter has its own private label candle, a customer favorite. This year, their specialty men's section carries insulated whiskey glasses and wedges.

A trending higher-end item is their alcohol smoker kit. Smoked bourbons, whiskeys, and tequilas are all the rage, and now you can make specialty cocktails at home. The items are packaged in gift baskets, ready to provide some holiday cheer for the cocktail connoisseur on your list.

Festive occasions call for sharing beverages with loved ones, and at H-Wines, the French owners wish you a Joyeux Noel and invite you to book your holiday party at their tasting room inside the historic bank building in old downtown Montgomery. A wine club membership would be perfect for the wine enthusiast on your list.

This year, the Cottage on College Street is merrier than ever with its festive decorations that bring charm to your Country Christmas feel, a perfect spot for family photos while staying at Tiffany McPherson's Airbnb. The well-appointed cottage's airy sunroom is a tranquil space during the daytime, but stay to watch the sunset at night as you unwind and slow down before entertaining over the holidays. Tiffany prides herself on providing delectable fare for its guests.

The magic of the season comes to life with twinkling lights adorning the shops and eateries. From Hughes Landing to Old Town Spring, light poles and boutiques are decked out with wreaths, lights, and holiday regalia resembling gingerbread houses.
