Plan a Day of Holiday Shopping—and Dining—in The Ville

Can you hear the jingle bells ringing in The Ville?

Kick off your holiday season with Father Christmas himself at the Downtown Somerville Holiday Jubilee on December 1. From 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., enjoy a DJ and ice skating, strolling characters from “Frozen,” carolers, free carriage rides, live entertainment and free hot cocoa and cookies while awaiting Santa’s arrival on Division Street at 8:30 p.m. Then, get a photo with the man himself at the United Reform Church on Main Street.

The festivities continue for holiday shoppers on December 2, when the Somerville High School Chamber Choir—complete with robes—walk the streets and pop into stores singing holiday songs. Grab a table at a downtown restaurant and stick around Main Street for the Holiday Light Parade that evening. In this celebrated tradition, fire and emergency vehicles decked out in holiday lights come from near and far to parade the streets of Somerville.

On December 8, Peter Mayer, the lead guitarist in Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, brings his widely acclaimed Christmas tour “Stars and Promises” to Somerville High School. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Somerville Educational Foundation that supports creative and innovative teaching and learning programs by funding grants presented by faculty and students in the schools.

And throughout the season, as you shop and gather with friends and family at your favorite restaurants, be sure to take an Instagram-worthy photo in front of the holiday tree on Division Street.
