Top Design Trends for 2023

Christie Miles Denton, Partner at Miles & Kirk Design Highlights the Year's Top Design Trends

Natural Kitchen Tones: By embracing natural materials, natural woods, and softly-veined marbles, quiet, thoughtful, kitchens play gracefully with other rooms in 2023, balancing homes and result in a soothing, warm feeling our clients are craving. Whether it be plastered and quiet range hoods or sleek lines in cabinetry accentuated by long linear pulls, everything is serving to reinforce this quiet strength in the kitchen. Throughout the home, we are encouraging clients to warm their space with wonderful soft paint colors and textures.

Highly Saturated Rooms: Fun departure-spaces that are off the beaten path- whether an office, family room, scullery. Try a soothing favorite color but don’t be afraid to take it too far! Trim, windows and walls can all go the same color.  If you are scared to go all-the-way, try backing the color off a few on the paint chip and paint the ceiling to compliment. The ceiling is a long-neglected surface in most homes.

Lighting: This is the #1 place we encourage clients to push their limits.  It is indeed the jewelry of their home.  Sculptural lighting is truly artwork, and a wonderful way to accent the architecture of a room.  Playing with scale and materials like alabaster or hand-blown glass, add incredible depth, and add needed tension with other elements in the room.

Powder Rooms: will continue to see homeowners unabashedly share their style and loves! Whether it be color, incredible veined marbles, quartzite or onyx, warm tones in faucets like unlacquered brass or polished nickel, or incredible wallpapers, the powder room will always be the best place to wow guests.

Intentional Custom Design and Décor: Personal style is so much more exciting than minimalist spaces- whether it be through collections, layers of favorite fabrics, our clients are requesting highly customized spaces.
