Top Three 2019 Home Décor Trends

Luxe Designer Michelle Harrison shares her favorite décor secrets for the year

This is the year of going big, bold and beautiful. According to Luxe Interior Designer Michelle Harrison, 2019 is the year for trying new things in your home. Here are her top three interior design trends to try this year.

Statement Lighting

“Lighting is now the jewelry of the room,” says Harrison. “You can totally reinvent a space by switching one light to a pretty pendant, stunning chandelier or spectacular sconce.”

She suggests starting with statement lighting in an entryway, kitchen or even in the dining room.

“My secret? Add the length and width of the room and it will give you the size the fixture should be,” says Harrison. “If it is a 15X15 room, the light fixture should have around a 30 inch diameter.”

Home Office

The home office used to be designed as a very formal, stuffy room. However, 2019 trends are taking a turn to make the office into a fun and cozy room.

Harrison suggests working with stand-alone pieces in the home office such as a writing desk, funky rug, statement chairs or even comfy seating like a sofa. She also says this is an easy space to mix and match old and new pieces.

“A home office can often become dead space, but with a bit of design, it can become a life enhancing room!”

Bold patterns and colors

Large scale patterns are going to be everywhere in 2019. It’s a trend that has already hit the fashion runway, and is now making its way into interior design.

“Headboards, pillows, a pair of chairs, wallpaper… Make it your resolution to add a bold pattern somewhere in your home,” says Michelle. “To go more conservative, try a big print on the back of a curved chair.”
