Mary Bycholski, the owner of Touch of Glamour med spa, has a straight-forward business philosophy.
“I want people to love the way they look and to look refreshed and rested. After a procedure I want people to look in the mirror and say, ‘Oh, there I am! People can have such a huge positive reaction after getting treatment.”
A nurse practitioner, Mary opened Touch of Glamour in 2017, while still working full time in a hospital. The spa is currently located at 2790 Main St.
She started her medical career as a pediatric nurse, later specialized in emergency medicine and worked in a trauma center with a medical team treating the critically ill. She became a nurse practitioner after earning her Master’s from UCONN.
Her interest in medical aesthetics was piqued and she started studies in the field after getting her own treatments.
She is certified in aesthetic procedures from the American Academy of Procedural Medicine and in March she left her hospital job to work full time at Touch of Glamour.
A medical spa is a hybrid of an aesthetic medical center and day spa where nonsurgical services are provided by licensed medical professionals. While the procedures offered at med spas like Touch of Glamour have been around since the 1950s, they began gaining mainstream popularity in the 1990s.
The most popular of these procedures, Mary says, are injection treatments and at Touch of Glamour she offers several, such as neuromodulators, including Botox, Dysport or Xeomin, which reduce wrinkles; volume enhancements with soft tissue dermal fillers; and collagen induction therapy, or microneedling, to rejuvenate tired dull skin.
Touch of Glamour also provides numerous laser procedures, including hair removal, skin resurfacing, vein removal and IPL treatments to improve skin texture, tone and remove dark spots and fine lines.
The results of med spa treatments, Mary says, are almost immediately noticeable and provide an “instant confidence booster.”
“I think the number one thing people get from treatments is confidence. Once they see their face look the way it did before it really changes their outlook and how they feel. You look like you again. You look relaxed and well rested.”
The costs of treatments vary but Touch of Glamour offers monthly memberships at varying rates that allows patients to choose a particular treatment each month.
"I try to make this readily available for everyone," Mary says.
