Pets are so much more than merely man’s (and woman’s) best friend—they’re family.
When a loved one in your family needs medical attention, whether they walk on two legs or four, you’re bound to do everything you can to ensure they receive the best, most compassionate care possible.
Dr. Marina Yamate, founder of Aloha Veterinary Hospital in Brea, knew that she could make the next step in her professional journey one that would make a lasting impact in the lives of countless pet companions.
“After decades in the veterinary field—working in privately owned general practices, specialty hospitals, and large corporate settings, including seven years as an emergency veterinarian—I knew I could elevate veterinary care for both pets and their owners,” she explains.
“I wanted to transform the traditional experience by creating a spa-like, fear-free environment using advanced technology, compassionate care, and a commitment to strengthening the human-animal bond. At Aloha, we focus on positive client experiences, gentle handling, and reducing pet anxiety through innovative techniques.”
Her mission may have been crystal clear, yet she still faced obstacles on the road to realizing her dream.
“A failed attempt to purchase an existing practice was the turning point that made me realize I could build my own,” she recalls.
“In 2021, I established my corporation and began searching for the perfect location—one that balanced my role as a mother of two with accessibility to schools, sports, and community events. We were fortunate to establish Aloha Veterinary Hospital in the heart of Brea.”
Aloha Veterinary Hospital provides a full spectrum of comprehensive wellness and preventive care for your furry friends, including annual checkups, dietary consultations, vaccinations, dental care, and parasite prevention.
“We specialize in advanced surgical procedures, including laparoscopic LOVE Spays and gastropexies, as well as cutting-edge diagnostics like in-house labs, ultrasound, and CT scans,” says Dr. Marina.
“We also offer pain management with laser therapy and on-site access to board-certified specialists in surgery and cardiology, plus urgent care services for added convenience.”

The entire Aloha team is “Fear Free” certified, which is aimed at addressing the considerable stress that pets encounter during visits to veterinary practices.
“These stress responses are upsetting for pet owners and can disrupt essential biological functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature, which are traditionally relied upon to assess overall pet health.”
Aloha Veterinary Hospital is also working on becoming a cat-friendly practice, which would expand its clientele and allow them to enhance feline veterinary care and comfort.
Learning new skills is nothing new to the Aloha staff–in fact, they welcome opportunities to hone their expertise.
“We prioritize continuous education for our staff to ensure we remain at the forefront of veterinary medicine.”
With a booming business and her own busy family life, finding time for it all isn’t easy, but Dr. Marina finds a way to make it work.
“Balancing business ownership and motherhood has been a journey of give and take. I prioritize being present for my children’s school activities while also growing the business. They’ve witnessed firsthand the dedication required to build something from the ground up, which we hope instills a strong work ethic and appreciation for entrepreneurship.”
Through her business, Dr. Marina also makes it a priority to support the local community.
“We actively participate in local events such as the Taste of Brea and Brea Pet Expo, sponsor local schools, and collaborate with the Chamber of Commerce. Our social media platforms serve as a resource for pet care tips, success stories, and educational blogs to support our community.”
Whenever the need arises, pet parents can trust the Aloha Veterinary Hospital team to provide the highest quality care when it matters most.
“With my extensive background, I provide personalized wellness care, advanced treatment options, and life-saving emergency care—ensuring pets receive the highest level of veterinary care possible.”
