The sound of leather on willow is echoing through Boulan Park in Troy as the City officially unveiled its first full-size cricket field – a milestone years in the making for one of the region’s fastest-growing sports communities.
With Troy City Council members, community leaders and dozens of local cricket players in attendance, the celebration marked the city’s growing commitment to bringing people together.
“The addition of this regulation-size Cricket Field reflects Troy’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive recreational opportunities that celebrate the diversity of our community,” said Mayor Ethan Baker. “I am especially grateful for the state funding that helped bring this vision to reality.”
The new field features a scoreboard, covered dugouts, permanent sight screens and a hybrid pitch designed for both practice and competitive play.
The project was made possible in part through a $900,000 State of Michigan grant secured by State Sen. Jeremy Moss and State Rep. Sharon MacDonell.
Cricket has seen tremendous growth in Troy in recent years, particularly among younger players and families. City leaders say the new field provides a dedicated home for the sport and new opportunities for community connection and youth engagement.
