Turkey Trot with a Heart

Local Organization to Host Thanksgiving Event

This time of year, Peoria residents love to get outdoors and participate in events such as 5K’s, half-marathons, and more.

Locally owned Walk Forward Coaching, LLC, (WalkForwardCoaching.com)  is hosting such an event this Thanksgiving to get people outdoors while giving back to the community. The organization will hold the North Peoria Turkey Trot, and all proceeds will help local teens.

Sharon West, founder of Walk Forward Coaching and the North Peoria Turkey Trot, says this is her mission.

“I worked in corporate marketing for 10 years until last year when I decided to follow my passion. I resigned from my marketing job, enrolled in an intensive, nationally accredited life coaching program, and opened the doors. And that is when my dream of being an entrepreneur and providing much-needed support for teens and parents began,” says West.

The North Peoria Turkey Trot will be at Liberty Park in the Meadows on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23. There will be a 5K timed race at 8:30 a.m. and a 1-mile untimed race starting at 8:35 a.m. Registration is $10 per person through Sunday, November 5, and $15 per person beginning Monday, November 6.

Participants registered by November 5 receive t-shirts (available while supplies last after that). Goodie bags are available while supplies last. Prizes are given for the 5K winners.

Turn out to run or cheer on participants. You can enjoy live music at the park during the event.

All proceeds go to non-profit programs providing confidence-building opportunities for teens.
