Once the retail district and gathering place for workers engaged in magnesium production during World War II, Water Street in historic downtown Henderson, is today, hip and happening.
Reinvigorated with new bars, breweries, and restaurants, Water Street oozes with authenticity and charm, offering a delicious array of craft beers and tasty tidbits – all within walking distance.
Water Street is anchored on the north by Juan’s Flaming Fajitas & Cantina, Nevada’s top-ranked restaurant on Yelp. Proprietor Juan Vazquez’s signature tableside presentation of flaming fajitas draws diners from around the valley.
On the south end of Water Street is Public Works Coffee Bar, owned by Water Street resident, architect and developer, Windom Kimsey, whose award-winning firm and personal residence are adjacent to the Coffee Bar. Public Works serves up home-brewed coffees and teas, along with pastries from world-famous Chef Flemming’s BakeShop located down the street.
“I could have chosen to locate my businesses and build my dream home anywhere in the valley, but Water Street called to me,” said Kimsey. “Its rich history, authenticity and charm, coupled with an avalanche of new energy, puts it in a league of its own. There is no spot like it in Southern Nevada.”
But perhaps the heart of Water Street is its bars and breweries which have put the area on the map for craft beer lovers and sports bar aficionados. Mojave Brewing Company, the ultimate dream for two former CCSD schoolteachers turned brew masters, John “Griff” Griffith and Nate Carney, is the only brewery in town that produces cider in-house and offers cask ale.
Nearby family-owned Lovelady Brewing Company is known for a variety of local brews and features its own on-site canning operation, in addition to full-scale brewing.
Sports bar, Hardway 8 serves up a “mean cocktail” and offers a darn good wine list, making it the perfect date night spot. This is the third successful venture of owners Bryant Jane and Lyle Cervenka.
Biscuits and Bourbon’s culinary director, Matt Coleman, was pulled back to his hometown by Water Street’s growing energy. His signature BBQ combines with fun cocktails served in an ambiance reminiscent of a neighborhood backyard.
Sticks Tavern, located across the street from Lifeguard Arena, the AHL's Henderson Silver Knights' practice facility, is the concept of culinary superstar Jordan Camacho and his business maven mother, Robin Camacho. Serving elevated sports bar food, Sticks is known for its “perfect” cheeseburger and “WTP (What the Puck!)” cocktail.
So whether you’re looking for unique bites and brews to share with friends after work or a family-friendly spot for Friday fajitas, Water Street offers crave-worthy choices for any occasion.
