In this month of thanksgiving, we asked several Tulsa business owners what makes them grateful. The answers are both unique and universal ... in the end, it's people that make the difference.

Valued customers
"In March, with much excitement and anticipation, we opened the doors to our new showroom on South Memorial. We are thankful for our long-standing customers whose support made this move possible. We are also thankful for all the new faces who have walked through the doors at our new location. A family's home is such an intimate and personal space, and we're so grateful to get to play a small part in transforming houses into homes all over Tulsa.
We have such appreciation for the clients we've worked with for years and whose families we've gotten to know and watch grow. It's very fulfilling to help our customers find pieces that work for their entire family. As a family-owned business, we love that Tulsa is a family-first community and has a small-town feel in a big city.
We're committed to supporting the Tulsa community through philanthropy, and in 2020, we hope to increase our charitable contributions through time and treasure. We have been longstanding stewards of Project Orphans, Building All Children and Family & Children's Services among others, and we look forward to adding to the roster of amazing organizations we support in the coming year.”

Pet lovers
“We are thankful for the continued support of the Tulsa area pet owners and veterinarians. We are blessed to have a very dedicated staff of highly skilled veterinarians, veterinary nurses and support staff. We are also very thankful and proud to be the only nationally accredited veterinary emergency and trauma center in the entire state of Oklahoma.
Tulsa has wonderful pet owners that truly view their pets as family members. Our city
is becoming so much more "pet friendly" with the dog parks, increasing number of businesses and restaurants that allow people to bring their pets along for a day out, it's wonderful.
Outside of work, we are most thankful for our family. We are lucky enough to have all our children and three grandchildren living with us. Despite the hectic nature of our household, being able to watch our grandchildren grow every day is a true blessing!”
AEC is located at 4055 S. 102nd E. Avenue in Tulsa, can be reached at 918-665-0508 and can be found online at AECTulsa.com.
Michael Tidwell, CFO
Southern Sheet Metal Works, Inc.
Founded in 1904 by J.W. Tidwell, Southern Sheet Metal Works Inc., is one of the oldest and most respected sheet metal fabricators in the state. The company, established at the beginning of the Oklahoma oil boom, was a major supplier of sheet metal to the booming oil fields. By the ‘70s, the third generation of the family was running the company and Michael became president and expanded the firm’s operations to include climate control systems. Now, his son David has joined the company as vice president.
Today, you can see Southern Sheet Metal's work all over Tulsa from the bike racks created for the city to the fabricated waterfalls in Center 1 on Peoria and the pontoon boat at Margaritaville in the River Spirit Casino.

Family
“I am grateful for my family. Watching my four grown children as parents and spouses who are committed to their families and their community. I have six grandchildren and they are all smart, funny and happy. My wife Shari has devoted 32 years to Southern Sheet Metal while taking care of the family at the same time. My youngest son David oversees our operations and serves as vice president. I am proud of his loyalty and commitment to our family.
I love Tulsa, I have always lived here. My children live here. We do business with people I went to Cascia Hall with and continue to work with companies my dad knew 50+ years ago.
Tulsa is innovative and Southern Sheet Metal has followed that lead. We've had to keep up, at times reinventing ourselves, adding to our product line and capabilities. We established Southern Safe Rooms in 2011 after the Joplin tornado. David heads up this operation and it has proven to be a successful addition to our product line.
My hope for the future is that we continue to grow as a family and a business. Southern Sheet Metal is a family with fourth generation quality sheet metal workers. We work together every day combining our talents and ideas for growth and improvement. I see 2020 as a banner year for us on many levels. I love having my family be a part of this idea my grandfather came up with 115 years ago. It's an honor and a privilege to continue his dream.”
Southern Sheet Metal Works, Inc. is located at 1225 E. 2nd Street in Tulsa, can be reached at 918-584-3371 and can be found at SouthernSheetMetal.com. Capabilities include laser and plasma cutting, shear, punch and break as well as Auto Cad.
