Because our beloved State is so wonderful with mild winter temperatures, we get an influx of “Winter Texans” or “Snowbirds” from up north, usually when the temperatures start to drop but before the snows come. The Gulf Coast is always a favorite destination – after hurricane season.

Welcome to Texas, Dale and Tootie Facile! They’ve been journeying down here in their comfortable RV from Jasper, Minnesota about this time for the last twelve years. They always make a stop in Boerne to visit family. In their 80s, the Faciles are happy to get away from the cold weather and so much snow. Assured that their neighbor and son will take care of the homestead, they can enjoy a restful and fun time in the winter. Once Dale and Tootie have made sure their Boerne family members are doing well, they travel on down to Rockport, on the Texas coast to prepare for winter. They stay at the Wilderness Oaks RV & Resort from November until May.

The Faciles enjoy a busy social life with their neighbors in Rockport. There are weekly Friendship Dinners and potlucks. They play mahjong, bingo and cards at the resort. The resort owners host dog parades, a St. Patrick’s Day parade and a huge Thanksgiving dinner for their guests. Those are favorite memories for the couple. They also love the big State dinner and party that two to three hundred people from Minnesota living on the Coast will attend.

We hope the Faciles will enjoy many more winters in Texas. Dale says the best part is getting to see family in Texas. Tootie loves having special relationships with the people they get to see every year in Texas.
