This one-mile loop weaves through pine thicket and hardwood forest, a gorgeous backdrop to your walk. The trail was named after the hundreds of rusted paint buckets found when it was built, which hikers can find decorating trail markers.
Environmental Trail, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
This trail provides an opportunity to discover Kennesaw Mountain’s diverse wildlife. The 1.35-mile loop features nine signs with illustrations to educate you on the surrounding environment’s wildlife, forests and creeks.
Paper Mill Trail, Sope Creek Park
Discover a piece of Civil War history in Marietta. Amid a mile of sprawling forest and babbling Chattahoochee River tributaries, you’ll find the trail’s namesake: ruins of the Marietta Paper Mill, built in the 1850s and destroyed by Union soldiers during the Civil War.
Sweetgum Lodge Loop Trail, Red Top Mountain State Park
This 3.5-mile loop offers a longer hike, but if you need to stop to rest, the scenic views of Lake Allatoona won’t disappoint. The Sweetgum Lodge Loop also connects to several other trails in the park, making it easy to extend your trip if you choose.
