What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self?

Candid advice from our local women leaders and entrepreneurs.

Have you ever stopped to think about that past? What lessons learned from our experienced older selves can we learn from, if we knew then what we know now? A few of our community members shared their wisdom with us and answered the simple question of “What advice would you give your younger self?”. Here are some great insights!

Angelique van der Made

Question: What advice would you give your younger self?

Angelique’s advice: “I would advise my younger self to enter the world of entrepreneurship earlier. Take the step to be an entrepreneur. I feel I stayed too long in corporate roles while I knew in my gut that entrepreneurship was much more me. “   Owner, Red Oyster USA  www.red-oyster.com

Dr. MaryAnn Pladdys,

Question: What advice would you give your younger self?

MaryAnn’s advice: “Find something you love to do. Study hard, work hard, be the best you can be. Continue to learn to do new things and change with the times. There will be bumps in the road that will seem to be devastatingly huge. Relax, take a breath, learn your lesson, and move forward. Looking back, those bumps will appear to be very small!”  Audiologist, https://www.drmaryannpladdys.com/

Sandra C. Fava, Esq.

Question: What advice would you give your younger self?

Sandra’s advice: “There could be a list several pages long but here are a few things that would go at the top:”

·         Be grateful for each day;

·         Live life to the fullest;

·         Perfection is not the goal nor is it reality;

·         Life experiences, like travel, are so much more valuable than stuff;

·         It will not always be easy, but I promise it will be worth it;

·         Make yourself a priority;

·         Never, ever let someone else’s opinion of you shape your thoughts or actions;

·         Do all the things you are scared of;

·         It feels like the end of the world, but it is just the beginning.

Driola Kaloshi

Question: What advice would you give your younger self?

Driola’s advice: I am honestly appreciative of my younger self because I know that my present self would not be here if my younger self didn’t learn to have patience and stayed consistent and disciplined- I am where I’m supposed to be because of that.

That said, the advice I would give to my young self is "Listen to your grandma!"- When I was younger, I mistook her input as nagging- looking back now I realize she just loved her grandkids and wanted us to have better lives and make better choices than the generations before us. “  Co-Owner & Executive Chef La Pergola a Norther Italian Ristorante,  https://lapergolanj.com/
