Everything You Need to Know

Stretch marks are incredibly common, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with them forever.

At node & needle, we work with clients every day who feel frustrated, discouraged, or self-conscious about the appearance of stretch marks. Many have tried every cream, serum, or exfoliating treatment on the market with little to no improvement. When nothing else works, they’re often surprised to learn there’s another option: Inkless Stretch Mark Revision.

It’s one of our most requested paramedical tattoo services, and for good reason. Here's everything you need to know about this innovative skin therapy.

What Is Inkless Stretch Mark Revision?

Inkless Stretch Mark Revision (also known as ISR or inkless tattooing) is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation technique that uses a tattoo pen to infuse targeted healing serums into the dermis without using pigment or ink.

Instead of covering up stretch marks, this technique supports the body’s natural repair mechanisms to visibly reduce texture, color contrast, and depth. The goal is not to hide the skin, but to restore smoother, more even tissue from within.

How Does It Work?

Using a professional-grade tattoo pen with a fine needle cartridge, we create controlled micro-injuries directly into the stretch mark tissue. This process triggers a localized healing response that stimulates fibroblast activity, collagen production, and improved circulation.

At the same time, we deliver a proprietary medical-grade serum blend formulated with vitamins, peptides, and growth factors to support tissue regeneration. These advanced serums are FDA-cleared and REACH compliant.

The benefits may include:

  • Improved collagen and elastin synthesis

  • Softer and smoother skin texture

  • More even tone and less visible contrast

  • Healthier, more resilient tissue in treated areas

  • Reduction in hyperpigmentation

Unlike camouflage tattooing, inkless revision does not deposit any color into the skin. It encourages your body to remodel the scar tissue naturally from within.

Inkless Revision vs. Microneedling: What’s the Difference?

Both treatments stimulate the skin to heal and renew, but there are key differences:

  • Equipment: Inkless revision uses a tattoo pen, which allows for more precision and targeted control than traditional microneedling pens.

  • Depth Control: The tattoo pen enables exact needle depth, making it well-suited for targeting deeper dermal damage.

  • Targeting: Inkless revision treats stretch marks directly, while microneedling treats larger areas more generally.

  • Serum Infusion: The tattoo pen delivers healing serums directly into the affected tissue, not just onto the surface.

Microneedling can be a great complementary treatment for overall skin texture. Inkless revision, on the other hand, is uniquely focused on remodeling stretch marks with precision and purpose.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

This technique is well-suited for:

  • Stretch marks on the abdomen, hips, thighs, glutes, breasts, and upper arms

  • Postpartum or post-weight change stretch marks

  • Mature, white, or silver stretch marks

  • Skin that is healed and free from active inflammation or infection

Please note: red, newly formed stretch marks are not yet stable enough for this treatment. A consultation is required to assess candidacy and design a safe, customized plan. Stretch marks should be at least one year.

Does It Hurt?

Most clients describe the pain level to be a 2-4 out of 10. It may feel mildly uncomfortable but is generally well-tolerated. Depending on the area, we may suggest a topical numbing cream beforehand or apply a soothing mask afterward to enhance your comfort.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Results vary depending on the age and depth of the stretch marks, as well as your body’s natural healing response. Most clients see visible improvement after 2 to 4 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow for full collagen remodeling between treatments.

This is not a quick fix, but it is a long-term investment in your skin and your confidence.
