“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive.”
—Howard Thurman
I first heard this quote during morning meeting at 7:40 a.m. on a Tuesday in November 2014. I was a first-year teacher at a low-income middle school outside Denver, doing what I thought the world needed from me. I’d been afforded a world-class education and I understood the game-changing factor of access to excellent education. So there I was—teaching middle school special-education math while simultaneously earning my Master’s Degree—pouring out everything I had. I was overwhelmed, depleted, and calling my mom crying on the way to work everyday.
I definitely didn't feel alive.
Fitness makes me feel alive. Since elementary school, I’ve always identified as an athlete — someone who feels most at home when I’m moving my body, working toward something, and feeling part of a team. After graduating college (two years of D1 lacrosse, two years of competitive club squash), I found myself a bit directionless. No practices. No teammates. No sense of “what am I training for now?”. That empty, unmoored feeling was what led me to my first meditation retreat. It was the first time I allowed myself to get curious about who I was underneath the layers of identity I had worn like armor.
Yes, I was an athlete. Yes, I was energetic, smart, driven, loyal, adventurous. I was a good friend, a loving sister. But… who was I really?
What was my purpose?
What did my heart want?
So I started treating personal growth the way I had always treated sport: with curiosity, discipline, and the kind of quiet, gritty determination athletes know so well. Over time, my heart voice grew louder — dampening the ego voice that critiques your relationships, your “mile time,” your outfit, your everything.
Once I realized I could channel my athletic mindset into my inner world —determination, resilience, consistency — I felt a shift. After a really challenging year in my late 20’s, I started training again, but this time it was my heart. I hired coaches, joined retreats, invested in certifications, and spent more and more time with my favorite version of myself. I slowed down. I tuned in. I started asking hard questions about how I spent my time, money, and energy — and whether my life actually aligned with my values. Oh, and, what were my values? What was mine to hold onto from my childhood, and what was mine to create anew? The gaps I found became my training grounds.
Like many people, my relationship with my mindfulness practice has ebbed and flowed. I’ve had seasons where I was deeply dialed in — meditating, journaling, making massive changes — and seasons where those practices faded because life got “good enough.” But “good enough” wasn’t alive enough. That’s exactly why I created the Athletic Soul Collective — for people like me who thrive with rhythm and accountability, who love the cadence of training, and who crave an accessible, consistent way to stay connected to themselves. It’s not about physical movement. It’s about soul movement. It’s your gym for personal growth.
My athletic roots deepened even more when my husband, Anthony, and I moved to Montana. We now live in Manhattan, MT with our 6-month-old son, Aldo, and our dog, Pepper. Becoming a new mom while building my business has been quite a ride. I’m constantly navigating the push and pull of work and motherhood, and I’m grateful for both. My heartstrings are tugging me in different directions I deeply love.
In Montana, I fell in love with becoming a mountain athlete — learning to trail run, to backcountry ski, to breathe thin ridge-line air, to trust my legs in steep terrain. Embodiment at its finest. And yes, I full-sent it my second summer here: running both The Ridge and The Rut (iykyk). Those mountains brought me closer to myself, to my heart, to new friends, to the version of me I’m proud to introduce to Aldo as he grows up. Being in the mountains makes me feel alive — my favorite version of me — connected, grounded, present.
Five years into building Soul Trust Ignite, I feel more alive in my career than I ever have. Not because it’s easy. But because it is meaningful.
I feel a joyful buzz after facilitating a workshop for a team — witnessing them connect in ways that will shift how they show up at work.
I feel stingy tears when a coaching client has a breakthrough — when their chest softens and something opens.
I feel awe watching retreat participants return home changed.
And for all the weirdness of social media, I still beam when a member messages me saying a meditation helped them have a courageous, heartfelt conversation.
My mission at Soul Trust Ignite is simple:
To help YOU ignite your inner wisdom so you can live the life you desire and deserve.
Only YOU can make your best decisions. Together, we practice tuning in instead of searching out there for belonging or approval. Because if you don’t belong to yourself first, you’ll look for validation in every job, relationship, house, workout, and season of life.
Everything I create at Soul Trust Ignite is built from our three-part methodology:
SOUL — uncover who you are beneath your conditioning, and reconnect with your deepest desires.
TRUST — cultivate self-love and inner trust so you can embody your authentic self every day.
IGNITE — take aligned action that reflects your inner transformation.
Transformational living is an inside-out process. You create the conditions that allow you to spend more time with your favorite version of you — the version that is grounded, vibrant, magnetic, and deeply alive.
Your next step?
Take one small step into your stretch zone — that sweet space just beyond your comfort — because that’s where growth (and aliveness) happen.
If you’re ready to make real, tangible change, I’d love to support you.
My 1:1 coaching program, Transform, combines deep inner work with strategic, aligned action.
For those who thrive on rhythm and community, the Athletic Soul Collective membership is your home for monthly breathwork journeys, weekly meditations, and reflection tools to help you live with more clarity, intention, and joy.
And if you’re part of a company, team, or local organization, you can attend or hire me for a wellness workshop — breathwork, meditation, or culture-building sessions designed to support your people in being more human, more connected, and more fulfilled. When you make space for your team’s humanness, you exponentially increase their happiness (and yes, their profitability, too).
Wherever you begin, begin.
That one step toward your aliveness matters.
